Still have some student loan left but thinking about going in-house for non-monetary reasons (passion, long term fit, expertise, etc). Any of you regretted going in-house in similar situations?

Not for a second. And going in-house doesn’t necessarily mean taking a big pay cut- some positions will actually pay more than a firm job.

Agree. After my first year in-house my boss gave me a huge raise and added me to the bonus plan because she said I was doing a lot more than she ever expected. Relationships can make all the difference!

Agree with the previous comments. Also, if you're making less to the extent that you have trouble paying off your debt and you're debt is held by the gov, apply for income based repayment plan.

I am usually good with money but, I had a medical emergency and wracked up a bunch of medical debt/cc debt. I am torn on how to pay if all off. I have $5000 left to pay off. I can conflicted between investing while the markets are down and paying down the debt slowly. Or paying down the debt as quickly as possible—and missing out on this buying opportunity.

Is full-time freelance the only way big agencies hire outsourced talent? I've been approached by some decently big agencies who like my work, but will only bring me in if I commit to 40 hours/week. I have a handful of clients and can't exactly shut myself off from all opportunities because big agencies "need you available from 9am-6pm every day." Is this the only way to get in with well-known agencies? Do any allow for flat rate projects?

So while browsing new listings for apartments in NYC, I have observed the following points:

- there has not been a significant price drop yet
- high inventory of crappy apartments
- Brokers are still being rude and charging a broker fee on top of their rude behavior

Just my two cents.

I’ve noticed that I am finding it hard to leave work “at work” and also not detaching myself emotionally from work. For example, if I send out a contract and it’s heavily marked up, I see red (no pun intended). Ill also think about it non stop until I provide my response (which is not good in am angered state. I’ve tried the standard coping mechanisms (count to 10, workout, etc.), but doesn’t help. Is this burnout? Any tips here?

I’m only a few weeks into the in-house world and I have to say that it kicks ass. I get to spend real time learning about how our business works without worrying about billable hours. I’m sure I’ll become more jaded as I go on (as lawyers do) but I want to take a moment to appreciate it.

I’m a 7-8ish years out director of legal at a small media company. I’ve been here about 3 years and want out, but I’m not sure whether it’s the right time considering that I don’t want to go to a giant company with tons of lawyers (I get emails from Netflix, roku, Viacom recruiters frequently). My goal job is to be the first legal hire at a media startup and eventually build out my own team. Am I too early for that?
