Stimulus package: Nancy and Steve have been negotiating more over the last week and the market seems to be optimistic that a deal will happen. If Nancy believes the Ds will take the WH, Senate, and keep the House, why not strike a deal now and then just pass another package in Jan 21? Why wait?

Kind of a lot here.

1) Senate is in recess for the next two weeks, so quite literally a deal cannot be enacted before then
2) as implied above, Phase IV would need to be passed by Senate - Rs aren’t passing what the House has passed thus far. House knows this. Which is why the previous bills from the House haven’t been expected to pass in the Senate. Also much like the last Senate iteration from several weeks ago was known to not be able to pass the House. This is the game of blaming the other side for not “working with what our side has passed.”
3) If Ds sweep, all of these issues will disappear (but then there will be some internal bickering over provisions, because this is politics)

From the personal investment side- like AD1 said, just buy some SPY/VOO and don’t worry about this.

I’ve been holding on making any trades due to the unknowns around another fiscal stimulus bill. I think the market is expensive without more support for the economy

If I’m 85k in student debt, should I just hit the minimum student loan payments then drop an additional $200/300 on the stock market in hopes that after 2/3 years the gains can be used to fully pay off whatever debt is left? Or should I just use that extra 300/400 on the monthly loan payment. I contribute 12% to 401k and max out a Roth already for long term if that matters. Really just thinking of other ways to generate additional income to pay the loans back as fast as possible

Would love some input on putting money into house renos, and whether they’ll be worth it in the long run. Thought this would be a good bowl for it.

First time homeowners. We splurged a little on the house and hope to make it a more long-term (10-15 year) place. It needed some upgrades and renovations, the biggest one of which is the kitchen. All in, we’re looking at around 90k for kitchen. It feels like an absurd amount of money, but all 4 quotes we got were around the same ballpark. Thoughts?

I’m starting a business and need about $50K in upfront costs. I’ll fund half with cash and am looking to take a loan (which by my projections can be paid off in year 1) for the other $25K.

Would you recommend taking the loan through my personal name or through the company, assuming the interest rate for year 1 is 0%? I feel like it will take awhile to get the $25K for the business as the loan receiver pre-revenue… right?

To everyone who looks at what’s going on with GME and is focusing on WSB. Please reconsider. You likely heard that the liquidity on the market almost dried up Thursday, causing what would have likely been a crash. Please understand this is because some hedge funds took an extremely risky bet, on margin, with unlimited downside and then refused to capitulate and take the loss. They dragged it out until the loss would be so large it would take down the marketmakers, if they had to absorb the loss.
