SOC - felt inspired by the bowl to share

Pro
The grey market will soften a bit, but will quickly recoup as the manufacturers will also cut production to maintain the same demand they had before the pandemic...
The stainless steel watches are like corollas and Camry’s of the luxury watch category. It will slide but not enough for anyone to get below retail, given there is enough hype for a few years inventory

Lol what? No
Yes. If it carries on, there might be some deals to be had, as a lot of grey dealers have been stock piling “hot” models. I say that as someone with the watches already, so it’s not my interest.
Good for you
Wondering the same
Grey market prices might fall a little.
Inventory is restricted already so good luck finding one.
I've seen people commenting that it is already happening in SS Rolex aftermarket sales and has been for 2-3 months.
No personal experience there, but I did have a buddy who walked into an AD and grabbed an Explorer 2 that somehow showed up without a waiting list in December. That sort of thing seems unlikely a year ago.
Bowl Leader
Heard from an AD that Rolex is impacted by Corona due to restrictions in Switzerland on coming to work. Don’t expect things to improve; it might even get worse if the virus continues to keep the watchmakers idle.
Bowl Leader
The AD met with Rolex yesterday, and I spoke directly to the owner, not an uninformed sales associate.
Someone still needs to be at the factory to make the dials (parts still done by hand), load the machines, and inspect the watches, etc.
Basically, everything is speculation and no one knows how deeply Corona will impact global supply chains.
Socks are crashing because of fear over the coronavirus. I believe these watchmakers have common sense and see the way the media is manipulating the public into believing it’s some type of a crisis. With that information in mind, there’s no reason to drop the price of their watches because eventually all this stuff is going to settle and everything will go back to normal.
Rising Star
They're not going to drop their retail prices. MSRP is MSRP.
What you'll see is a build up of stock on higher end watches and less demand for Stainless Steel.
The biggest dent will be in the grey market. All the flippers who have bought these watches as "investments" or for resale are going to start to hurt when grey market prices plummet because anyone can get a Submariner at MSRP with a 6 month wait.
I think the manufacturers, like Rolex, will probably cut production in order to keep scarcity. But regardless, there will be a drop in demand.
Not very familiar with newer models but vintage is unaffected so far
Prices will rise on Patek and desirable Rolex - production and therefore supply will be down because of corona. Buy now. Baselworld cancelled this year so TBD when new models will be released.
