Stop looking at title in PM roles, and look at scope. But interviewers never do that 😟

Past coworker got promoted to Head of Product at my past startup within < 4 years of PM experience right out of school. It's a simple product with some ML tech thats existed, with a shiny UI on top. Only 1 small customer thus far in years.

I have a simple PM title, but run an entire P&L division end to end & own all the feature sets, roadmap and marketing (with PMM). 1T+ data trx / month. Enterprise B2B

Time to stop feeling bad for yourself and take action. This has happened in my career many times. I've always applied the following logic, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. To translate, don't wait to be disrespected over and over again. At some point, move on. It's a good learning exercise and don't waste this opportunity to reflect why this happened. There is always some reason, even if you may not like it. Is there something you can change? In the end the market is hot, so find a place that appreciates you. Best of luck with your search!

BCG1, I'm glad you care. I care as well. There is no malice in my statements. We've all had issues in the past. I've been verbally assaulted many times at work. I've had companies promise me things and then in my opinion steal from me. I've had companies weaponize titles against me and make me feel so bad about myself leading to months of sleepless nights and waking up in sweating fits. Even the thought of how much it would be easier to just jump in front of this subway train and probably no one would care. My point was to move on and find a place that appreciates you for who you are.

OP, apologies if in any way I have hurt you or disrespected you. Feel free to DM me and I offer my assistance however I can.

Unfortunately you have to advocate for yourself and game the hiring system a bit. This means loading your resume with leveling up keyword that will get your resume past the resume scanners (use Jobscan.co), paying for LinkedIn premium to start messaging hiring managers or peer employees for a referral to jump to the front of the queue, or maybe jumping ship to a smaller company (like your friend) to level up on title.

Any other hiring managers feeling like all of your candidates are asking for more money last minute just to see how far they can go? I’m in final stages of interviews with Accenture for a PM role. I’m based in Chicago with over 5 years relevant experience and certified in agile. Before talking more, the recruiter gave a 105 salary cap, but averages online look more like 112-123. They seem very excited about me.
