I'm on my second trip back client side. I did one for the wrong role and went running back agency side and then jumped back client side after a few years for the right fit. My last agency was really slow paced and I'm at a late stage start up name that you would definitely recognize now. We're still fast paced but work life balance is valued. I've had to get used to 8-5s instead of 10-5:30s and I send more emails before 8 and after 5 because we're global so weirdly I have slightly worse work life balance but my supervisor is trying to help me police it which has been a nice support. I'd say that the bureaucracy/politics have been a consistent theme in a way they weren't agency side. You'll be doing a lot of trust building to get to do the work you want to do and I didn't have as much of that agency side. Also you will do so many things other people used to do for you. You're now the accts person taking notes and sending the meeting recaps, the project manager making project plans and timelines and checking in on deliverables, the producer sending the RFPs evaluating/checking in with vendors, etc. That was the hardest part because that stuff takes away from actual insights work and I had a difficult time budgeting enough time for tasks. It's getting easier but I've been really stressed out about meeting expectations for a few months. You may also have less insight tools like Simmons, euromonitor, trendwatching etc.
The perks are great, we're paid well, we have other incentives that matter like a wellness stipend, quarterly bonuses that are substantial, client side there's less vacay and summer Fridays but it also depends where you are. My office has a decent Friday leave early culture.
I'm stressed but happy to be here vs agency side rn and my work is interesting. It's not 1:1 so prepare your brain to need to use extra spoons/marbles for work til you get the hang of it.
I feel like that's normal entry level. :( I was a 9:30 - 9/10/11 pm person my first two years agency side. I'm not saying because I went through it that it should continue AT ALL. This field needs some serious help with the work life balance earn your keep culture but unfortunately you are likely not in an abnormal spot. I'm about 8 years into my career. Now I am often working about 8 am til 7 pm but my supervisor is trying to help me get back to normal because she noticed I had a lot on my plate.
I was recruited.
A shock in what way?
