Roughly an eternity.

like

3-6 years, with 4 being probably most common

like

Ish. I’d subtract one year overall. M+SM is typically 3, whether it’s 1 M 2 SM or the other way around. Rare to spend 2 years in both.

And we have no official minimums — I had someone make M and then make SM 6 months later.

like

And what’s typical Years at M and SM before Director?

2 at M and SM.

like

I don’t think they have SM

We have SM at S&

like

Never.

What’s comp like across M, SM and Director?

The best answer is … very different.

My supervising partner at my law firm wants me to move with her to a new firm. I know I am significantly underpaid in my current position and that the law firm I would transition to pays much more on average. I don’t want to share my current salary during the negotiations in case they attempt to base my new salary on that amount. What is the best way to respond if they do ask about my current salary?

4.5 yoe in audit. have opportunity to move down in rank to valuation for a tiny bit more money in lcol. with that said, i’m up for promo to manager in audit. i hate it - but if i stay i’ll make more money in the meantime and have exit ops to shitty fp&a roles. my question is: is the move to valuation provide any better exit ops? is it worth it at all this late?

Need some honest advice. So I’ve been at the firm for a little 7 months this is my first job after college and I absolutely hate it. I have two degrees in tech and business. Currently I am doing auditing and it’s just not for me. Am I crazy for quitting current role and looking another job? Or do I stick out a couple months for 1 year mark then leave ?

I graduated with a degree in Business in 2018. I’m planning to pursue a Masters in Engineering (likely will pair with MBA) and have been taking the required pre-reqs over the last year from community college.

Is there a big difference between MEng and MS degrees? Or about the same?

I started off looking in going into Mechanical Eng but now looking more into Civil & Environmental.

Is anyone here willing to provide insight about job prospects between the two fields?

Or any other advice?

Currently job hunting. I know a few retired C-level executives who tell me that they would hire me at the director level in pretty much any role (despite currently being an individual contributor) because I'm extremely driven, a life-long learner, a natural leader, and deeply educated in diverse fields (PhD in engineering and MBA in analytics). However, I can't seem to land a senior role. How do I convince an executive to take a gamble on me based on my past success and strong future potential?

Hope you all are having a great weekend. Just wanted to share a tip for all of those who are looking to connect with former employees - there is a filter function at Linkedin which allows you to do so (and you can combine that with the filter on location - then you can almost always find at least 2-3 people you can reach out to and ask about the firm and practice group you are thinking of lateralling).

Feel free to share any other tip with the fellow fishes!
