Strategy vs PMO work? Been seeing a lot of people say pmo work is not actually consulting and that’s the only “consulting” I’ve been doing. What’s the difference (besides one is pmo/implementation and one is strategy - I’m referring to exit ops, why one is better for certain people, etc)

PMO work can mean lots of different things. PMO where you get dropped in a project and all you do is give regular status and collect updates or maybe work on a project plan is BORING. Your silver lining is that you will learn some project mgmt and stakeholder mgmt skills which are always good. Some PMO work is more vaguely scoped. Like I’m on a PMO engagement where more of my day is really being a combination architect, engineer, PM, and consultant. That keeps it varied and interesting and I think a role like that will make you far better at strategy i.e. I think if you haven’t performed a PMO role like this in your career you will be less equipped for strategic projects. It is a slog though, the key is to not do it too long until you want to shoot yourself in the face every day. I’m personally ready to get back to the usual strat projects

I just left a PMO project. WLB was great but I did get to the point where it was driving me nuts out of boredom. Will prob work more now but with more engagement

I know my client needs an Accounting Manager. I know this because they’re startup med device company that has their books in complete shambles. The current accounting team isn’t very strong. How do I let the client know that I would be interested in joining them? They’re not actively recruiting for any position but I know they’d benefit from it. Serious responses only :)

You started at a new role/company 2 months ago that is +50% your previous TC, a level promotion, and you’re happy with the team and scope. However you’re also currently in a long distance relationship with a SO you love and have been with for 4 years. The relationship is starting to crack and moving abroad to be with her seems like the best decision to kee the relationship. How would you play this out sirs/maams? Ask manager to work abroad and quit if they reject it? Thx for the feedback 😔

What are your thoughts on the chief of staff role at a startup? I want to get into tech startups but don’t have an “idea” yet and am not a “builder/engineer”. I read the JDs for this type of role and it sounds like a great role for a former management consultant/strategic advisor and a good way to get into startups and set yourself up to run your own startup some day…is my understanding correct or should I approach getting into startups a different way?

Hi all - I’m working as a Jr AE at a remote agency. Before full-time at this agency, I interned there for 2 years and often did pro-bono work. I love my company so much, but I often feel stuck when it comes to salary and growth. The salary is minimum wage and every time I ask about a raise they agree I need one but never get around to it. Today, I was offered a position at another agency as a remote AE with more than double my current salary. I didn’t seek this job out but don’t know what to do.

Partners or whomever can help me understand about billing and hours. To keep things simple, let’s say you only have one staff to work 1,700 billable hours a year on a $60k salary and you have only one job that and the rate charged to the client is $300/hour and an projected hours budget of 1,700 hours. So ideally you would have revenue of $510k. If the staff takes less time partners make less money and if they take more time partners make more money while the staff keeps the same salary?
