30 lbs by the end of the year is not a realistic goal nor is it healthy. Eating disorders are challenging to get a handle on. Substituting one eating disorder for another is not the way to do it. This is a stressful time. Please be kind to yourself and your body
Dude. That’s a lot of wait to lose in a short amount of time. I’d give yourself a more reasonable goal of trimming a few lbs a month through healthy eating, portion control, and exercise. Develop healthy habits and the weight will come off steadily rather than shooting for this this arbitrary, and unrealistic, New Years goal.
As someone who had an eating disorder, don’t do this to yourself. Its unrealistic and will likely put you in a terrible mindset. Your body has a natural weight and it will take some time to adjust to it. But be kind to yourself and don’t force yourself to fit that mold. Focus on what feels good and makes you happy.
Get outside. Take a 30-45 minute walk every day to de-stress from work. It’ll be good for your state of mind. I’ve also found that if I exercise before work there are no excuses, nothing gets in the way, and I start the day having burned off much of my nervous energy.
Scrap your insane and unrealistic goal to lose almost a pound a day (😱).
Instead, pick two things that contribute to your health targets. Make your *new* goal to do these things every day until 31-Dec. (I would recommend NOT counting calories, but tracking your macros each day is a great one.)
Signed, former eating disorder who FINALLY cracked healthy habit forming after decades of focusing on the wrong (damaging, unrealistic, compulsive, guilt-based) things
Can I get in on this venmo cash receiving list?
30 pounds in a little over a month?

Ty all for the the advice, wisdom, suggestions!
OP: “Yeah but how much does a gall bladder weigh?”
Maybe set a goal that doesn’t have a number attached to it? A goal to eat three healthy meals a day and take a walk/run every day or two? It’s so easy to trigger disordered eating when you set a too-difficult goal.

Martial arts my friend. Sign up for Muay Thai, 3-5 times per week. You will be throwing up after every work out for the first month but you will be so happy it’s unbelievable.
I started in late august and since then lost at least 20lbs and I look like 15 years ago.
Want my Venmo?
See what? My Venmo ?
Get a peloton. Or if you are budget conscious, a folding treadmill on Amazon for $299; there’s an early Black Friday sale right now in Amazon. Ending in 3 hours.
I gained 20! I bought a peleton (paying $112 a month) and I’ve already lost 15 after 1 month. I also cut my alcohol consumption and now I just drink on the weekends :) I’m really rooting for you! You got this

Laughing at the “don’t drink on the weekend” part 🤣

I once read that sweat is fat crying as fat bids farewell to the body
Exercise is great but ultimately the problem here seems to be food. I suffer from disordered eating as well (restricting/bingeing in a horrible cycle). I recommend finding a good dietitian who can help you find a balance of still eating the things you like and managing your weight. They’re a dime a dozen these days, so it might be hard to find someone with a reasonable outlook, but if they tell you to cut out carbs or sugar (unless you need to do so for specific health reasons), run.
Keep in mind there's zero connection between exercise and weight loss (this was a myth propagated by sugar industry) - it's almost exclusively what you eat. Cutting carbs and sugar are easy first steps to get on the right track (*recs mage by analysis of top key diet trends, my partner needs a special anti-inflammatory diet so we stay up to date on nutrition info and trends).
There absolutely is a connection between exercise and weight loss. We lose weight when our calorie expenditure outweighs our calorie intake, so exercise absolutely can help with that. However, exercise alone can’t be the only method of weight loss, our diet is also important. To say there is zero connection between exercise and weight loss is just incorrect.

Yikes. All these people encouraging this have clearly never had an ED. It's tough. I hope you're ok. You know you don't want to relapse :(
Going though the same, my DMs are open
Take your vitamins.
OP, I’m a dietitian. Feel free to DM me if you want some confidential advice for safe/healthy weight loss.
Make or female? Where and how you carry your fat is important to the equation. Male chest and stomach. Female hips and thighs. If those target areas are getting you down then you need and exercise program to help tone along with cardio. Also, be realistic and kind to yourself. Genetics has a lot to do with it beyond just unhealthy eating.
As a weight watchers leader, the most you should lose is 1-2lbs per week for healthy weight loss. Some weeks will be higher, especially in the early weeks and then it slows down.
Your gonna lose a pound a day???!!!??

Set 30 as the goal even knowing it's near-impossible and unhealthy 😖. But I really needed the motivation to get started on losing something—even if it's 5 lbs—and even if i have to venmo someone—cuz i feel like im losing my mind. The advice in this thread has been helpful thanks though~
