Stupid question- how long would this job take ?

Hi guys I recently set up my own thing. And had a small & slightly strange request from a client.

They want a playbook/ manual designing up. They have the copy (2000words) and existing design guidelines. So basically its just putting these elements together.

I was thinking two check ins/ rounds of amends.

As a designer how long do you reckon is fair to scope this for? What would you say in terms of timelines.?

When you do a cut and you’re super excited and proud. And then the director weighs in and it gets even better! And then... the client makes it worse. And worse again. And worser still. Sigh.

How to deal with a toxic client and internal team? Starting project w/emotional client and yesman/micromanaging/unable to lead/bus throwing manager. Already burnt out and scared of poor performance.

The partner in my department ‘threw me under the bus’ with an issue on a case which was outside of my control. Without going into detail, it was a big client and she was saving herself. Understandable but naively, I was expecting better.

If you got a job offer (which you declined) from an entity who later became a client and you are scheduled to work on that entity who became a client, do you let engagement partner know?

So.... Design tests being part of the hiring process. How does everyone feel about these? I’ve run into them a few times while applying for work and spent weekends working on them with no hire by the end of the process. In a way I can see why they do it - but I’m also weirded out that my portfolio just isn’t enough. What’s everyone’s take? And does anyone do this in their hiring process?

Is it expected of designers looking for a job to have a portfolio website, or is that trend changing? I know when I graduated college six years ago it was definitely expected, but I'm curious if anything has changed. Is a PDF portfolio an automatic dealbreaker?

A lot of graphic designers have been transitioning to product design or ui design and I'm curious if anyone had any regrets? Or maybe want to go back to graphic design?

How long should you stay at your first company?

I have been working for about a year and a half at a start up company. Underpaid overworked and I am the only designer with a non design manager. I don't see a lot of room for advancement at the moment and was wondering if people have seen faster career growth switching companies every 1-2 years? Especially early on in their career.

How helpful is agency background as a junior when transitioning into inhouse/tech design roles? Is it perceived as an asset or do you get pigeonholed as an agency designer?

Starting to look at my options to grow in my career. Is a Product Designer the same role as a User Experience Designer or are there nuances?
