Suggestions for when your slow but your firm makes you log 8 hours per day? I’m sitting here thinking of what I can bill to the non-chargeable number to make up the 8 hours. Ugh

Hey that’s me 😂

This was me today. Billed 6 fake hours doing random bus development research (I slept all day).

At least a solid hour to “Attend to emails”.

Call up an old buddy and try to recruit him/her. Then bill time and put down “work on recruiting” haha

Admin, bus dev, CLE, professional dev. But really start looking for a firm that doesn't micromanage its professionals.

I always just say “attend to administration matters” billed to the standard non-billable firm number if there’s ever a day where I don’t bill all 8 hours or whatever

like

This is all helpful! I think I’m more frustrated that they make us log 8 hours time per day. If I meet my yearly billable requirement I don’t think it should matter. Some days bill 12 hours sometimes it’s 4. But it all works out.

What do you wish design students would learn in school to ease the transition into needs of business? I have seen an increasing need for more education/inclusion/overlap into other areas of business that depend on design teams so they understand what goes into the process. As well as design teams into the other business teams. This would alleviate tensions and improve quality product delivery due to the major miscommunications that occur so frequently.

Plaintiffs counsel took my clients deposition today. He mentioned that he would likely be ordering the transcripts and I suggested we split the cost of them (in front of court reporter). He got pretty defensive and said absolutely not, it’s unfair to the court reporter, and that it is frowned upon in the industry to do that. Each party orders (and pays for) their own copy. I’m in my 2nd year of practice, never heard such a thing. I’ve actually split the cost before! Curious for insight on this…
