Sunday scaries...want to hear how everyone gets ready for the grind on Mondays, especially with meetings that start at 8:00 am. I hate taking away from family time Sunday nights. I’m struggling with WLB, especially with the “always on” culture and constant client asks/deadlines.

Quit. I’m in the middle of quitting because of this

About to ramp up my job search so I don’t have to deal with the sacries.

like

Couple things I’ve done: 1) I block the end of day or whole of my Friday afternoon (will open it if a meeting I want/need can only fit there) 2) I ask all my coachees and mentor relationships to schedule m-th, normal working hours to take pressure off fridays 3) I hold the last meeting of the week on Friday’s (what ever time that is) for me to prep for Monday. This includes reviewing all meetings on the calendar for the week and rearranging as needed, getting notes prepped for my teams to go out first thing Monday AM, etc. 4) if needed, I switch work and work out (normally 5am) on Monday’s. So I’ll respond to emails and get emergency deck turns first and then work out while those are reviewed by my leaders

Wth? How is the only advice here to quit? I would either get Monday’s head start on Friday, block off an hour before you sleep Sunday, or start your Monday an hour earlier to prep yourself, based on your time preference. For me scaries always happen if I’m dreading or not prepared so I try and minimize that.

Thanks. Need to start getting into the Friday planning habit. Have so much going on with the project, but need to start getting intentional about my Friday afternoons.

You must live on the east coast. I’m hard pressed to find any morning that doesn’t start after 7:30. Depending on the week, it’ll be a few 6 or 6:30 starts.

Friday planning is a good idea but so hard bc after noon on Friday’s I’m ready to check out for the weekend 😔

like

That’s my challenge. Just need to try to get into the habit. Maybe try to take an hour this Friday and start from there.

I don’t agree fully with the suggestion of “plan better on Friday.” If Monday is described as a “grind” and you are struggling with WLB, having “Sunday scaries” every week, then perhaps it’s the culture and not so much your fault. I’d almost go so far to call certain responses here akin to victim blaming. My suggestion is take some time off, tell your leadership about the lack of balance. We need to speak up if we ever want this stuff to get better.

Me too. How is this sustainable?

It isn’t.
