What is the bonus structure at your firm? I work at an IP boutique in patent and trademark prosecution. Our billable is 1850, which sounds nice except that patent prosecution is done on fixed fee so you can only bill so many hours per project. Bonus structure is gross salary divided by 1850 times hours over. So ex, $95 hourly x hours over 1850 and then taxed.

I have so much anxiety about making mistakes at work, with the latest one over a partner calling out a mistake I made (and should’ve known about) that a senior associate also didn’t catch during her review. I adore this senior associate and actually triple-checked everything to make life easy for her, and yet still somehow missed this ONE (tiny) thing. Does it get better with experience?
