Super unhappy in PR. What jobs do people usually switch to after having experience in PR? Need advice

Depends. What do you like about your current role, and what do you not like? If you can give us some idea of how you’re feeling, we may be able to suggest alternatives.

As an AAE, you have entry level job experience, so it is less about “experience in PR” and a talk track around learning business and client service / team basics that will set you up for success elsewhere. But, that brings us back to the first set of questions - without additional insight, and we won’t be able to offer alternatives.

I made the move from PR to advertising (where I’m a currently a strategy director focused on digital/social) and I recommend going to an integrated shop where you’ll be exposed to everything and you’ll figure out what you really want to do. I moved to a holding company ad firm as a digital strategist, and I’m now at an integrated shop but I wish I’d come over to this sooner. Imo, all the skills are transferable at your level, I actually find PR account people stronger because they’re also typically doing a lot more of the day to day work. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about the transition or want to chat!

like

Just to add - I moved from accounts in PR to accounts in digital to digital strategy. 100% agree with the other comment here that the move will be based on what it is you like/don’t like and what you’re looking for.

You’re at a pretty junior level, so there’s a lot of wiggle room for you, depends on what you find most interesting. Advertising, digital/social media, in house comms, marketing, marketing communications, all are solid options to consider IMO. Just don’t expect a real pay bump if you’re switching.

like

With 1-2 years of PR experience, the options are open like everyone said. Assuming you’re on the agency side, make sure the thing you don’t like is the industry / discipline vs. the agency experience. If you still like comms. / PR but hate agency try going in-house at a large corporation, or at a startup or non-profit. If you hate PR, then it’s less about what you can do and what you want to be doing and whether the skills translate. Anything in marketing, advertising, copywriting, digital, and paid media can work but the type of environment you want is important here too.

When i got into cyber security i was extremely enthusiastic about it. I was fascinated by how a simple string on hexadecimal values can give you remote access to any machine, so i learned many things like exploits development, reverse engineering and malware analysis. During my tenure of 6 years i used IDA just once.

In my opinion Indian cyber security, especially SOC is just like another job, we don't have a creative culture in cybersec domain. That's heart breaking.....

Hi guys,
I am working since a year in my first job and I don't feel like I'm getting to learn much here or see any opportunities for growth. I am thinking about learning Salesforce development and applying for specific Salesforce jobs.
Either that or I will join another company as java developer.
Which of the two has better scope in the future, java development or Salesforce?
Any advice is appreciated.

You CAN be that leader that people want to work with. 1st, self assessment is required. Be honest: As a leader, have you engaged in/accepted Attribution Bias with a dash of gender &/or race bias? (See the pic) This is something we all need to be aware of as we lead our teams, provide performance feedback, & model the behaviors we'd like to see more of on our teams. Be on the lookout for Attribution Bias in yourself & on your team. It's a hindrance to creating a high-performing, inclusive culture.
