You could always go out on stress leave!!! Every time my vacation requests are denied, I get a note from a doctor and dip for a month.
I’ve used it both FMLA & workers comp(not at the same time). It depends on how “severe” your medical condition is. When I used FMLA, I just took time off and used my sick time for pay. With Workers Comp, I was paid for my time off and gone until my doctor gave the okay to go back.
My goal would be to get a new job in time to take that vacation! Seriously though, report this to HR and say you’re going to the state labor board.
Our "new" boss (also the owner) said no one could take a vacation in August due to the back-to-school crowd. A co-worker had a cruise booked from before he took over the practice. It ran the last week in July thru a few days into August. He told her if she went she'd be out of a job. Of course she couldn't reschedule and he let her go. He rehired her upon her return at a lower wage. There's a spot in hell for these power hungry narcissists. Good luck pleading your case.
That the problem with some of these "STUPIDVISORS" just how i like to call them. Sometimes, ppl need to stand up for themselves and know their rights. I remember the day a supervisor try to pull off something like that, I took him to HR and got my vacation got approved at the end. I was on his black list after that incident but ohh well. Some of these ppl just get a lil bit of power and it gets to their head. Thank God i been out of that department and moved to a new one. Better pay, better management as well.
Previous employer told me same thing. I found a better job. Vacation makes more emotionally balanced employees. They didn’t care about my health so I chose not to care about their needs.
Exactly, we have to put our mental health needs first.
I would respectfully ask for a sit down meeting to learn all the rules about time off, so that you are able to plan accordingly.
Take notes ! You will have documentation to support you in future
Lol I tell them not ask them.
I have the same issue at my job concerning vacation time and PTO. It’s mandatory that will work once a month on Fridays until 8pm and already work late on Wednesday. My supervisor told us if we want to take the Wednesday off we have to reach out to other staff members and ask them if they would switch work schedule with us before that is approved for vacation or personal day.
No, WFH for pharmacy company.
That seems ridiculous. Have you brought up the fact that they aren't on the same shift as you?
I would ask again. I would propose a plan for my coverage, by stating which colleague could cover my shifts. You may not get a great response to this, but at least you can say you tried.
We have the same issue where I work with vacations not being approved. Are your dates flexible? If so, try asking your supervisor if there is a week where no one is already requested off that you can take your vacation. Our management won’t even let us know if our vacation requests are approved until the working on schedule comes out a few weeks prior. I don’t know how they expect people to plan anything with no prior notice. Oh, and we have to take 80hours of PTO each year or we lose it. It’s a headache.
Is there a high turnover in your workplace? If staff are not able to use their benefits such as leave, then they typically move along.
I feel for you. Getting vacation days is so hard! I would try again. When was the last time you took time off work?
Get the time off no reason they should deny i
That’s stupid if you don’t work the same shift?
Your supervisor can say one thing, but HR can say another. As long as you’re giving ample notice and you’re not still in your probationary period, most HR groups would approve this.
