Supply box for the whole table or individual boxes? Thoughts?

I’ve tried both ways and it really depends on your students and how responsible they are and whether they can share or not. This year we are using community boxes and it’s working well...I could not have done it with my students last year.

I believe in teaching community, so my supplies are for the table.

Supplies shared by the whole table provides students opportunities to learn to work together and build community.

I’ve had supply boxes for the whole table for quite a few years now. I think it does teach sharing & working together. If I need to restock items during the year, I do, and at the start of a new year I take what’s left in last year’s box and keep it for fill ins or if someone really needs the same item that’s currently being used. It works great and saves me a ton of money from my classroom budget. I teach 5th graders.

I love community boxes because they provide natural opportunities for problem solving.

I've used both but prefer a box for the table. Reached the students to work together and share.

Table supplies, with individual crayon boxes. I am somewhat committed to this, but have run into serious problems during illnesses. I had Hand, Foot, and Mouth in my class, and was I in trouble! Germs everywhere!

We have community boxes. As someone else mentioned, figuring out as a group how they’re going to care for and share materials does provide some great problem solving opportunities!

I had table supplies last year and my kids did not take care of the supplies. This year I gave them one box of crayons to last till December and they have pencil pouches containing 2 pencils. When they’re dull they make a trade with me for a sharpened one. They take a lot more responsibility than last year. I teach 2nd grade and most of them I taught last year in 1st grade

I teach K and I have individual supplies but only pencils and crayons. Seems there’s always one in the class who enjoys breaking the groups supplies. The scissors and glue are for each table group.
