Any Aon pension actuaries who could help my friend understand the hierarchy of titles? Let’s say my friend has 10 years of experience, FSA and EA credentials, was a consistently high performer over his career, what would his expected title be at Aon within the core retirement actuarial business? Thanks in advance.

Not quite the same, but I just went back to the small firm where I started my career from a top ten firm. I was surprised at how hard the adjustment was as I'm doing a lot of things that I didn't do at a large firm. I hadn't done writeup, financial statements, or certain types of tax returns in a long time, so I had to relearn those things.
When I was previously in small firms, I worked with people from big 4 firms. Some of them adjusted fine, while others didn't. I think the key is to have strong basic accounting skills since CPAs at small firms are much more "in the weeds" with their clients, helping with accounting and AJEs in addition to prepping tax returns and/or financial statements.
Since I went back to a small firm, my stress level is exponentially lower. It's been nice to decompress and learn how to enjoy life again.
Best of luck with the transition. Give it some time and don't be afraid to ask questions. If you don't love it, you can always go back to a bigger firm.

2215? But what would I do with an extra 400 hours a year?
Haven’t personally done this but I know from other accounts that folks miss the resources available in B4.
So you figure it out yourself or do not take on the work. Big 4 issues that require national office should be in the unclear area of the provisions, not for basic research. Most of the work local firms will take on or advising on should not be as sophisticated day in day out as bigger firm. Good luck
