Taking the PTO in September then exam in December doesn’t sound like a good plan. Better to take exam right after PTO

Idk if this advice still holds under the new exam format....but in the homestretch for FAR, I upped my “study aids” and drilled Ninja MCQs until my rolling average was at a raw 75%. Edit: I wouldn’t call this advice; just my experience.

Do the MCQ’s!!! I took 2 weeks off as well and I would do 2 hours of MCQs then a one hour “brain break”. Tried to get 3 MCQ sessions each day and passed! However note that I had no time to study before my two weeks time off so all my studying was during PTO.

Definitely take the exam after PTO. It’s basically a major cramming session. I opened it for first time n studied 12/he per day for 18 days straight. Took one day off in the middle n one day off before the exam. Got a 92. Not worth stretching the stress n the pain. I used Becker, ur firm should pay for it

I took time off to study for FAR too and honestly found I didn’t have the attention span to study all day. I was able to work it out with my managers to work from home 4 hours then study the rest of the day for 2 weeks. Got more mileage out of my pto/studying but didn’t get too behind on work. Truly a lifesaver

Do as many practice questions as you can. The questions in Becker are typically expired questions but are similar in nature/appearance. I found that taking the PTO was less productive than studying in 2-4 hour stints for 2-3 weeks leading up to the test. Seriously, remove all distractions and tell people you’re blocking everyone out for Those 2-3 weeks...

Study a bunch, like two hours a week for a month, then study 6 hours a day during your PTO and take the exam right at the end of the PTO

When I took FAR I made a list of every key topic (about 30-40 topics) then I ranked them in order of how much I thought they would show up on the test. Then I would consider how well I knew each topic and assign a specific amount of time to study for each topic. After a few days I did the same thing and drilled in further on topics that I still needed more work on. I would always study the topics in the order of my previous ranking of how much I expected it to be on the test, but how well I knew the topic determined how much time I spent on each one

Just do everything in Becker and then review

Good luck to those who are going into their first busy season! Yes, it’s daunting at first - we’ve all been there (albeit, not in a remote environment amidst a pandemic.) My best advice is to take one day at a time (marathon, not a sprint). Remember audit/tax/consulting is not life or death, and you WILL make it through. Have patience with yourself and your teams. Find a mentor! Don’t forget you can always find some moral support (read: self-deprecating humor) in your fellow fish!
