Starting full time at McKinsey in November. Curious to know what it’s like for fellow gender non-conforming folk, as well as non-binary and trans folks at the firm (or as consultants in general!) Are there any trans/non binary people at your firm/office location, regardless of your firm? Just trying to gauge what kind of world I’m stepping into.
How do you handle being asked to support “diversity recruiting” when you don’t actually recommend your firm to diverse talent? How do you manage the optics of saying no and potentially saying no repeatedly?
I am currently unemployed but I am very curious about everyone’s company signature having she/her or he/him or they displayed. Are companies forcing people to write the pronouns you need to choose? I honestly never understood why somebody that wasn’t in the LGBTQ community would specify, and I know people are doing it to show support but if I started working again I don’t think I would want to put that in my signature. It seems political. What are your thoughts?
Is having an all-female event in a company setting inherently sexist? Isn’t defining who is allowed to attend an event based on gender the definition of sexism and should not be allowed?
Quick vent: I really hate when people aren’t inclusive! I invite my roommate out all the time with my friends and we have a great time. I haven’t received a single invite back. She definitely has more friends than I do in the area so it would help me out a lot to be invited & included to form a friend group. I even tried to invite myself and still no inclusion. Ugh.
Bro/Frat culture pretty much ruins everything. This is a big part of why diversity at all levels in an organization is so important. A bunch of guys with big egos, testosterone, and the same ideas..
The best private school (best on ranking) in my area is an all girls school (K-12). What’s the pros/cons of sending my daughter to an all girls school? My wife and I both grew up outside of the US and have not experienced single gender schools. Looking for any thoughts /personal experiences. Thanks!
When it comes to recruiting, is it good for the industry when the first word out of HR is "diversity" and not "talent?"
I’m interested in switching to diversity consulting or something tied to inclusion work. Any insight into what companies/types of roles I should be researching?
"Equal justice under the law must mean that every American receives equal treatment in every encounter with law enforcement, regardless of race, color, gender or creed, they have to receive fair treatment from law enforcement. They have to receive it."
Thinking about moving to a big city with the following preferences. I am thinking about Dallas, philly, or Chicago. What’s your experience living in those cities? Is there any other city I am missing? Appreciate any input! 1. Growing economy and population 2. Great food scene and things to do as a young professional 3. Relative LCOL can’t afford housing in NY, SoCal, etc. 4. Diversity of culture especially Chinese culture presence
Deloitte’s Diversity & Inclusion group hosted Nicole Hannah-Jones today and it was a goddamn breath of fresh air to hear her speak candidly. Even called the firm out in some places. If you haven’t seen her NYT 1619 project, educate yourselves https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/08/14/magazine/1619-america-slavery.html
Am I wrong in thinking it’s inappropriate to talk negatively about members of a specific gender or race at work? I’ve been hearing more of it recently.
Has anyone ever had experience with identifying gender pay gap/discrimination and what you did to (hopefully) correct it? Or did you get pegged as “that person”?
Once, a M friend said "men are stronger than women, I could dominate you right now" and at the moment I didn't know what to say cause he was in fact bigger and stronger than me. But this is something that bothers me still... I think people in general, regardless of gender, have different abilities and it is not a matter of comparing but rather understanding how best to use them, for yourself and for the society. It pisses me off to know ppl can think like this, and he is actually a good friend
On a call with the CEO talking about diversity and they compare a person with tattoos experiencing prejudice in the office to Black people colleague experiences... Meanwhile last I checked, a tattoo was a choice and removable. Also depending on placement, you can’t see it.
I have a controversial observation: Facebook seems to be using recruitment process managers to get diversity hires. I've looked at all the RPM hires over the past few years and every one of them seems to be a woman, most commonly a woman of color. I'm all for diversity, but this feels out of balance. Am I wrong?
Hey everyone, I am a current rising college senior coming from a no target school. Since my sophomore year, I’ve wanted to work at Goldman Sachs. Now that the applications are almost open for next year’s new analyst roles. I’m really interested in applying in their internal audit and risk division. Has anyone ever interviewed with GS or done their hirevue? I would love to hear some tips on how I can boost my chance of getting interviewed. Any tips would be greatly appreciated
Confession - I don't want to go back to office. I'm happy working from home and find no solid reason in stepping back. I hope the flexi work culture allows permanent WFH - I don't have a "good enough" reason, but I don't want to go (isn't this good enough?) It's been 1.5 years now, too comfortable to step out from my PJs to jeans.
I know this is not the best time but I'm looking for an adv account/comms position in Houston. I relocated from Italy and have more than 10 years experience. Actually working as a FL. Thanks to anyone who can give any helpful
If you're interviewing at a firm that markets itself to laterals as a biglaw refuge with low billable requirements and quality of life is it okay to say in an interview that those are one of the reasons you're considering the firm?
Anyone have any insights to the accelerated MBA program at Kellogg? Interested to hear experiences and if it’s worth it over the traditional two year MBA
Switching consulting agencies atm. Currently I earn way below average at 42k€/p.a + car. Next week I am negotiating with another company wanting to employ me. I am actually bringing in a customer with a fixed 2 year project @ 1000€ all-in/day rate (5 billable days/week). What salary should I aim for - and what bonuses? I would love something around the market average of 65-75k is it realistic even though I am in my mid 20s?

Plaintiff’s counsel wants to include the following language (expressed for purposes of this post in CAPS) in my client’s standard release, but I can’t tell if I should take an issue with it - thoughts? “The amount of this settlement and terms of this settlement are confidential and may only be disclosed to Plaintiff’s attorneys, government agencies, or as otherwise required IN THE ORDINARY COURSE OF BUSINESS OR by law or court order.”
