Taking two weeks off in two months. Had to cancel all my vacation this year for obvious reasons. I lateraled to my firm 7 months ago (will be 9 when I take vacation) and haven’t had a vacation.

Longest vacation I’ve taken is 10 days. Still had to do a little BS work while overseas. I am queen of the long weekend vacations, and I usually can get away with minimal work on the work days I take off. It may be harder for you since they know you aren’t going far, but I say go for it.

like

Have the opportunity to get a rental house for two weeks and would love to take off that time since it’s the only vacation I’ll have for the foreseeable future. Are two week vacations common in biglaw? Anecdotally I’ve heard they are easier than taking a few days off here and there.

like

Very firm dependent. At my old biglaw firm 2 weeks were very common. I’ve also had friends from other firms who said 2 weeks was unheard of outside of honeymoon. I would poll a few senior associates whom you trust.

Definitely firm by firm. Talk to some associates who have been there a few years.

Whoever said employers don’t care about grades and transcripts after your first job was a liar. Every lateral position that I’ve applied to as a 3rd year has requested transcripts. Why do we lie and tell grads that employers don’t check transcripts when they do. My coworker, a 5th yr, had to submit his transcripts also to lateral job. Side note - it speaks volume when multiple associates are trying to lateral at the same time

The amount of people, even attorneys, who can't separate out the policy merits of abortion from the issue of whether it is a constitutional right is disappointing. I consider myself pro-choice ---I believe states should allow it, that the federal government can pass a statute to guarantee it, and that FDA statutes and regulations will preempt any state trying to ban chemical abortions through FDA approved drugs. Dobbs at its core is a case about the Due Process Clause, not the policy of abortion
