Target fund vs lazy 3 fund portfolio in 401k? Feels like I have too much international and bond exposure in a 2045 target. For those picking their own funds, any recommendations on allocations? Thinking mostly total stock or SP500 fund, some div/growth fund, small amount of international stock fund.

I've gone 50% sp500, 20% midcap value, 20% small cap value, and 10% international developed market total index. Getting pretty good returns with that.

what international fund do you use?

I do three fund portfolio for greater control but still super simple: 70% US, 20% Int’l (all ex US), 10% bonds. I also view my asset allocation across all accounts. I found it to be best balance of simplicity and flexibility.

Am US based and if you’re thinking retirement goals, I’d definitely recommend keeping 30% in international developed markets and not bet it all on the US. Basically what a vanguard target date funds allocate is good enough.

any recs for international index funds?

If you want to use target date funds but still be a bit more aggressive couldn't you choose a later date fund (+5 or +10)? Alternatively you could do mostly target date then add in an S&P500 index for a portion if you wanted more us equity exposure.

100 percent VTI. I do some in a dividend growth fund in Roth IRA, but considering to replace it with some stocks off the dividend achievers list to avoid fees.

Target funds always seem to have fees to high for my tastes

^Agreed, while not the absolute cheapest, 0.15 is still extremely low in this industry.

Thanks everyone for your input btw! Ultimately decided I had more appetite for risk in my funds when looking at total exposure with wife's portfolio.

Product Management - I am somewhat interested in trying to move into product management. I have led internal analytics product development at a prior firm, and have led clients through developing/improving “products” for their teams to use however I have not led “consumer facing” products and my experiences have not been as “formal” as many PM roles ask for. I work in healthcare and would want to stay there. I’m wondering if others have any thoughts on these transitions.
