HI folks,
My current CTC is very low with respect to my YOE. CTC : 5.2 lpa
YoE : 4
Tech stack : Python , MLops
But now my manager has initiated H1B visa for me and the visa process is in progress.
Is it worth to wait till the H1B process completes to work in U.S (74k package) (or) should i make a switch immediately. ?

Glad trump signed that EO. More room for H1-Bs for students
US should adopt the scoring system so work visa is given out considering degrees, industry, skill set, language level, salary etc. just like Canada and Singapore. The current lottery is BS
Should never have been giving H1Bs to non-students in the first place. Just an excuse for companies to depress wages.
Similar to what KPMG1 said, this will probably be a blanket change (if any) so it will negatively impact most consulting firms. I would also argue that, realistically, most undergrad students shouldn't be getting H1Bs to begin with. It's not like they have any highly valuable experience or skills (masters and above do). The real solution needed is a program that allows students from US universities to work in the states longer term (not the short term OPT)
4 years undergraduate education in top universities is much more valuable than 1 year master degree in IT. Many foreign students graduated in those short term IT programs couldn't even speak proper English
Lol @ac1. More foreign students are completing STEM degrees than American ones. They obviously have some skill that the market needs but is finding a dearth of. Source: foreigner but did both my undergrad and grad here.
The solution is providing STEM students with green cards when they graduate. Obama proposed it but it went down in flames with the gang of eight.
Don't know man, if this is going to be a blanket rule ! I'm worried about my future now.
Though I agree that under paying firms caused this situation in the first place.
What is the change?
No change yet, currently it's a thorough review of the program. The review can impact visa holders depending on whether they take action on certain findings and/or if they try to overhaul the program. The second choice isn't very easy to achieve with an EO
lol I moved as a product manager to us on a h1b, ran the group! I don't think people really understand that their is a legit case for non student h1bs.
*there
@kpmg 1 there is a legit case. There's also a legit case against it. You are just one data point amongst many others and those other data point don't necessarily justify giving out so many h1b's.
Oh well raise the visa fee so high that unless there is a legit case no one will even try, make the wages 30-40% higher than the median for the position.
Just saying a blanket ban seems really unreasonable.
And most importantly let the market decide after that after all we aren't playing socialism anymore !
I think assigning visas by an auction based system could be the easiest way to implement reforms. Ex. If you are being paid 1.25 times the median wage, you should have a higher priority than someone being paid 1.20. They can also add a uniform factor, ex 0.1 to all graduates from US schools. That said, I find the notion that TCS et. al. are taking visas away from US grads absurd- it was never theirs to begin with. H1b is being used as a bandaid to retain US grads, while the original intent of the program was temporary employment in specialized skill areas- in fact, I would say that it is the TCSs of the world that are using it as designed.
Op that's actually a pretty good idea and just think about it, you only hire new candidates in October (when they can start) !
