Recently moved in-house and struggling with how to document my contributions (keep a “brag list” if you will) for purposes of review season and eventual bonus/promotion/raise discussions. At a firm it was fairly easy to point to high billables, high profile deals, praise from particular partners or clients. Now I’m struggling because my work is so….day to day. Mostly negotiating typical sales contracts. Very few opportunities for visibility or high profile contributions if that makes sense.

I can’t answer your questions, but I’ve been looking for a tax counsel position for years and I can relate to this. I honestly think a lot of company executives don’t really understand the tax function and the interplay between tax compliance (CPA-type work) and tax planning/transactions/controversy (tax attorney-type work). So you see a lot of tax compliance related industry positions. I also think companies just outsource a lot of the tax planning and controversy work to outside providers like the Big 4 and Big Law firms.
