Argue to no end with the other side of the deal over issues no other lawyer in the firm can follow

likefunny

So much of this! And explaining the economics of a deal to the corporate guys 🤷

Markup/redraft tax portions of M&A agreements, write tax opinion letters, lots of research, tax structure debt issuance and refinancings, structuring multijurisdiction org charts to reduce taxes....we do a lot of varied stuff. It's a good gig and not nearly as busy as other practice areas

Man, I need to get myself one of these gigs!!

Are there any firms out there that are open to attorneys retooling (switching from plaintiff to defense in the same practice area) for laterals? About to start my fourth year. Looking in the southeast region (AL, GA, TN). I do L&E but am willing to do other areas where I get caught up to speed on management-side L&E.

Anyone have some sample fee schedules I can look at for flat rate transactional services, like IP matters (non-patent) and contracts? I have market data but I’d like a broader sample size especially since I’m planning to steeply discount my rates until my book is built up more.

I took adderall while I was studying for the bar and it really helped. I don’t have a prescription but am wondering if this likely means I have undiagnosed ADHD but don’t know how to bring this up to my doctor. I definitely have trouble focusing in general and have always been pretty dozey/aloof but have somehow gotten by and am now a third year associate who is doing okay without it. Do you think getting Aderall could help even though I’m doing fine? Maybe I’ll go from good associate to great

Is anybody in the house at one of the big four accounting firms? They keep advertising legal counsel roles and I'm just curious about what the work is like/ what the work life balance is. I'm primarily interested in non tax rolls if they exist in that organization

Having my weekly crisis here. I feel like I’ve ruined my career by doing insurance defense at the same firm for 8 years. I’ve been aggressively job hunting for six months in this state, I previously took the bar in another state and was job hunting there for over a year. I haven’t had anything come up. The only options seem to be the miserable sweatshop ID shops everyone says to steer clear from. Thinking about a career change to selling cars so I can make more money. Really having a meltdown

This is the most basic question, so yep, I’m asking you to take it easy on me when you reply. I have been practicing for about 5 years total. I have been in civil practice for 2 years. These 2 years have been the most demoralizing, unfulfilling 2 years of my life. I have been giving myself pep talks to find the “positive” spin on it but firm life isn’t for me. I know networking is key but do you have some thoughts/suggestions on how to make an exit...crying at therapy is becoming too much.
