How often do you rebalance your portfolio?
Elon giveth and Elon taketh
Yes. Great selling opportunity. Just don’t forget to rebuy! I did this to lock in a substantial loss a few months ago, then planned to switch to a new platform and didn’t follow through. Missed out on some big gains. So sell then immediately rebuy!
So basically there are no wash sales rules for crypto and we can sell and rebuy to offset our other gains? Can we use this to offset our normal stocks capital gains?
Gotcha makes sense, thanks for all your help!
How are you all tracking your taxes?
I want to take advantage of wash sale rules, but if I DCA'ed into a crypto and only portion of my position is at a loss how am I able to calc the tax loss?
I manually track ever trade, but is there an easy way to calc this?
Thanks will check it out
Sorry if it is a stupid question but what is the purpose of that? At the end you are still going to pay the same tax amount and it is just deferring the tax due?
By realizing a loss on crypto, you offset gain in something else (whether crypto or a stock). If you lock in a $5k loss in BTC and realize a $5k gain in MSFT the same year, but have no other gains or losses on your schedule, you won’t owe anything.
Thanks makes sense. Except if they raise the long term capital gains in the future and we are all screwed
