Depends on what you mean by “late.” If it’s late for an internal deadline but we can still deliver to client on time, I want the great work product. If it’s so late we aren’t able to file on time, never worth it
I agree with SM1. Also, it depends on how you communicate being late. Something like this would be great: “I have a rough draft done but would like an extra day to self review and fix mistakes. Does that work with your timing?"
Agree with SM2. Needs to be communicated. I might rather have the lower quality work product earlier so I can catch all the review points. Especially if I’ve never worked with you before, I may not trust that the later draft will be higher quality. Nothing makes me more nervous than getting something late and wondering if the team will have time to clear comments.
Personally I’d rather a staff or senior tell me they’d rather take a look at something the next day with fresh eyes and get a good product late than get a pile of crap as the latter will end up taking more time for both parties to wade through
