What my CPA told me is that NY state requires the full years Federal wages to be noted on the W2, but you still only pay taxes over the hours worked there.
Thanks, PwC1. I’m reading up on it more and I guess it makes sense. KPMG didn’t give me a breakdown of the hours I billed to NY so that’s a phone call I’m making tomorrow. Another question, did you have to do anything specific for NYC or was that all part of NYS?
NY is idiotic like that, their state return requires too much effort compared to other states to complete if you don’t live there
I worked in NY and MD last year and reside in CO. Did the typical M-Th travel schedule. So, on my NY W2 my state wages = CO state wages. However my MD state wages were quite a bit lower. Is it normal for the NY and CO state wages to be the same? I sorta feel like they shouldn’t be because the time spent working in each state was not equal. Am I missing something or is this standard for NY?
Okay I have an update: for whatever reason KPMG (old firm) send me a W2 with my state income fully allocated to NY. I need to figure out the % allocation of hours to NY. @KPMG 🐠 would the DASC be able to provide that information?
