I’m pretty sure colleagues at my firm are inflating their billable hours. Is this the norm? I suspect many of you will think this is obvious and/or that I’m naive but wtf? I find hitting 2200 is tough even with a good sized work load. Am I just expected to play the game? I don’t want to sound self-righteous but if most are lying just to make the requirement, then maybe the requirement should be lower.
Curious about how many hours plaintiffs litigation attorneys work on average per week. I’m a defense attorney and billable hours don’t make for the best work life balance. Thanks in advance.
Advice for young attorneys dealing with non-billable workload? I’m still my first two months at my firm but a ton of the work I’m being assigned is non-billable. I understand if I’m not still fully on boarded but how are we supposed to keep up billables while being given time consuming non billable work?
What happens if you don’t hit your billable hours? I am a first-year that had a very slow February and slow start to March. I’ve been reaching out to various teams for work but things seem slow now & I’m worried that I’m not going to hit my 1800 target.
Real talk: does anyone else find all the bragging about super high billable hours kind of sad? There is more to life and it just reads like life not being lived. 😔
I struggle like crazy staying on track for billable hours. I will work 10.5 hours and look back at my day and 6 of it was billable. Tips for doing better about this?? I have minimums to meet and this is not sustainable
No billable work I’ve had full days but I’m having some ZERO billable days lately (1-3 days). We outsource our discovery work and it’s been slow for me. My colleagues seem to stay busy with other things… I obviously told the partners I can take more work. I’m worried. What do you do?
Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.
I had crazy burnout inducing weeks and I am now on a slower pace finally for the second week this year (~20 billable hours wk). Not sure how well I performed in those weeks prior but deals closed and nothing went wrong at the end. Now I think about what’s lacking in my life (partner, joy, expertise in my field haha) and I just don’t want to work or care to work anymore. Anybody in a similar boat? How did you get out of this?
Ever been let go before your billable time entries were in? Was let go today and not all of my time made it in as it was due next week. I’m expecting a heavy payout but I’m wondering if they can withhold since my billables are not in? Seems like their loss at this point.
What are legitimate options in careers for a tax manager coming from a midsize PA firm and 7 years of experience? I am feeling totally burned out of PA going to have 2,000 billable hours by EOY. Would really appreciate all suggestions!
what is the annual billable hours requirement for a manager/senior manager at KPMG? And is it enforced?
When your boss gives you 48 hours (clock hours not billable hours) to produce a viable objection to a MTD/compel arbitration in a complex commercial lit case, which is not my practice area, what kind of result is he expecting? From scratch, no template.
Is it just me or the average billable work in infrastructure transactions has blown off steam in the last couple of weeks?
Tax work at my law firm is not enough to keep me busy. Maybe I could start doing work in another department to supplement my billable hours. Is anyone here a part timer in another group? I’m thinking investment funds or start ups? Anyone else do this and any advice?
Let’s pretend we’re holding companies. I’ll start: No, we can’t hire an extra writer even though you’re clocking 70+ hours a week. BTW, our contract with your client caps billable hours per employee because they know we don’t pay overtime. Here’s a non-billable code you should start using for the rest of the year.
Has your Urgent Care facility or ones around you started testing for COVID19? If so, do you offer both the Antibody test and Viral swab?
Need some advice! I’ve been in a serious relationship for a year. I grew up in a traditional south Asian family where no one discussed relationships. My older sister never introduced any of her boyfriends when she dated them either. But when my parent got divorced, my mom became way more open minded about things. So I want to tell her about my boyfriend. I’m still kind of nervous though. Anyone gone through something similar/any tips to navigate the conversation? Going to see her later today.
Anyone have an INTENSE moisturizer recommendation? My derm’s regimen isn’t cutting it with this dry winter weather and travel....even my mini humidifier isn’t helping much and I have big dry patches on my face and neck 😫
The federal stance is shifting regarding the reopening...”He [President Trump] demanded that all of the nation’s schools reopen for the fall semester — until, suddenly, he allowed for some wiggle room.” The Washington Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trumps-week-of-retreat-the-president-reverses-course-as-the-coronavirus-surges-out-of-control/2020/07/24/bf680c2c-cdc2-11ea-91f1-28aca4d833a0_story.html
As a staff on the consulting side, does anyone else find it awkward to join a zoom call with the client before the manager/sm joins in?
Have a interview with LinkedIn for Startegic Ops Manager. There internal consulting group. Has anyone interviewed with them? Do they give MBB level cases for the interview?
ACN fishes. Salary check for Manager in S&C, London office? Got an offer for £79k base. Should I ask more? Feels like lowballed.
Here's the situation. I'm a freelance accountant. I have several part time clients, and one main 30-40/hr/week client. This is about the big one. The company has two co-presidents, but for the sake of clarity I'll call the person I directly report to the COO and the other the CEO - note the CEO also is the founder of the company. Again, I report to the COO. The COO is "working" in exchange for greater equity in the company and a crap ton of pay along the way. Cont.
Anyone go from KPMG to PWC? Was wondering if you can speak to how the transfer was regarding any major changes in benefits/perks/etc, and how learning the new firms tech was
What is the tipping etiquette on the free platinum breakfast in a JW Marriott? The server just gets coffee / orange juice and you serve yourself. It is an overpriced buffet that I would never dine in.
My senior claims his wifi card is "broken" but he just didn't want to lead the Webex. I did it. Can I bill his rate?
Hey fishes, DM me for referral at EY
How many companies can you manage interviewing for at the same time without getting overwhelmed?
IBM folks - how is the interview process evaluated based on cognitive assessment that I was asked to take before the process starts? I mean does it decides whether they will interview me or not? I have 9 yrs of experience.
Anyone else feel like their life has become super monotonous? My wife and I both WFH indefinitely, and we see friends and stuff on weekends which is nice but Monday through Friday we come downstairs after work, walk the dog, and ask “what do you want to watch?”…watch TV or whatever then go to bed. Is this just life now?
Hi fishes, Please help. I have submitted pre-interview form sent by EY . I have keyed in 2 information wrongly. What should I do now? Kindly help if you know about it.
Yay!!! No more masks for the vaccinated in most stores! Even more excited to go to Costco than usual 😇
People on here always bragging about their one night stand and I'm just over here like, "I've got two night stands on either side of this Marriott king size bed."
I never want to fly American again! Eh
