If you want to retain good relationships with clients you always have to be reachable and provide guidance. Your work is never fully done.

to help the new team at client in understanding the implementation. I always do KT before I roll off and receive sign off from client.. but they still have these "quick" requests.. why can't I have a peaceful Friday and work on my current client deliverable?!

You guys all probably applied to strategy consulting firms at one point lol don't tell me you would turn down an offer from bcg for your current job

Not true. Clients ask follow-up questions for strategy work as well. If you want a good client relationship or want to win the next project, you still have to spend a good amount of time answering their questions and helping them understand your model.

You get follow up questions in strategy work. I often find it's about data sets and sources, which can be stressful when the doc is 100 pages long with a 300 page appendix and you went through so many sources and expert calls that it's difficult to recount what came from where exactly...

Agree with you OP. Thats why strategy folks are free bird. They are not accountable after the deck is created. They also charge more for being a free bird. If can remain in strategy and feel good about it you should totally do it!

Type slower.

Stop doing free work

Any advice on how to handle an ECD in charge of your salary who says the only way to get a promotion or even a COL raise of any kind is through winning an award? Not consistently reliable and solid performance. Not keeping the client happy and profitable. “You either win an award, or all ya get is to keep your job.” And yes, I’m aware leaving is always an option, but eager for any other advice how to navigate.
