Having gone through 5 sets of admin in 6 years at the same school (😕), it’s no fun having to get used to someone new. However, I’ve found that the people that seem to have the hardest time are the ones who are determined not to get along with the new admin from the start and begin with a crappy attitude. While I really hate change I try to give the new person a chance and kind of hang back on any judgement and refuse to ‘talk smack’ about them with other teachers. By acting like a grownup, I firmly believe that it will make a difference to your admin if they are one of the good ones. I disagreed with something that was said and brought it up with my admin in a respectful way; we talked and it all worked out.
absolutely I have a few that are hell bent on not liking anyone bit the previous
Stay open and receptive to feedback. I’ve done it and it is hard but ultimately I found my place
Change is hard, and we all resist it, so you need to be open minded to the new administration’s ideas. If, however, you firmly believe that they are just imposing changes to establish themselves, and the changes aren’t valuable to improve student learning, then you can quietly ignore them. I’ve noticed that administration changes way more frequently than teaching staff does.
Listen but stay true to what you know and believe works! Always take suggestions and don't take it personally. Make sure you show that you always have room for improvement and growth. We all do! This has happened to me! 28 years in teaching and I love what I do!
be open to change and constructive criticism. im going into my 3rd years and have had 2 principals and 3 APS. this is the first year no ones changing, I've developed a great relationship with them and a lot of it I feel was that I was open to advice, I asked for help when I need it etc
It really does test your ability to be flexible. We are in that boat this year. Huge teacher and administrator changes at our school and our normally well oiled machine is kind of choppy this year. It does not feel as ready. Three new administrators hired less than a month before school started. Several beloved moved up or were forced out. Lots of new faces this year! I keep my head down and do my best. For 25 years this has served me well. I’m a professional and I know what I need to do but I’m really flexible and love change to be completely honest. 😉
