Nope. That’s just how admin guilts people into free labor - usually of the administrative variety.
My answer to that is, "Maybe so. But I will decide what work I do after hours, when I do it, where I do it, and even if I do it. Sometimes, it's going to have to wait until the next day."
Honestly, once you get your stride and learn to be more efficient, it can be a 9-5 job, with occasional weekends when the class turns in research papers. ;)

It is for some people. It could be for all teachers if we had reasonable expectations, manageable course loads, class sizes, and resources.

I mean, first hour starts at 7:30 so in a literal sense for sure...
Yes, it's definitely not 9 to 5 because we go home and do MORE work!! I'm exhausted most evenings and can't wait for the weekends to rest a little bit.
It is if that’s your only thing. It’s like any job: work smarter, not harder.
