Teaching with clinical depression...I’m relatively high functioning so most of my struggles go unnoticed by others. Those w/ a similar situation, what gets you through?

I have a therapist. But clinical depression

like

Talk therapy and good meds got me out of the hole. I am now thankfully on just a maintenance dosage. But there are bad days. I know to get outside and not hide in a dim room online.

Went to a therapist my first year regularly, haven’t been back since. Some days are easier than others. I try to exercise regularly to blow off some steam. I also hang out with a fellow teacher and we exchange “war stories” from the week. It helps a lot

I’m in a similar boat and I have found it to be helpful to find someone who understands the stresses of teaching and that you are able to talk to about other issues. I found that talking to people who don’t understand what it is like to be a teacher can be more difficult for what it is worth. If you can find a trusted colleague or teammate, the better. Best of luck to you.

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through that. The situation sucks SO much! I think this time of year can be hard when it gets warmer and sunnier and then you feel like you should be feeling better but you just don’t. It helps me to eat lunch with adults and spend time with people even when I don’t think I want to.

I’m in the same boat (high functioning with clinical depression). I used to say alcohol but I’ve cut back for health reasons (and lost 13 pounds so far). Having a wife in education helps for me to vent. Working with great people helps (admins not included). I’m on 2 antidepressants. Exercise helps some. I understand how the struggles of work can really impact your mood.

Find some people to hang with outside of school and get some good laughs in. I did this on a day I was super low, a lot of the people I get along with at school are similar to me and we spent a very long night laughing. It was good for me.

Otherwise, I find something that feels good for me like reading.

I have severe depression. Deep paradoxal sleep is essential to surviving mentally. Assessment of triggers is important also.

Same situation here.. I recently had a breakdown and missed 3 days. I have a therapist, I ended up telling a few colleagues and my principal. They were all so supportive.. I'm pretty lucky...

Please help 🙏 Has anyone done human/employee due diligence before? I’m thinking I’m going to approaching it where I do a mix of 1:1 and workshop style “interviews” to assess the quality and skills of people coming from a company to be acquired. How does one does this in practice? What types of questions should I be asking given I don’t have domain expertise in all these areas, and what does an final output/deliverable look like? It’s like 50 people.

Hey everyone, I need some advise. I've been interviewing for a company for the last 4weeks. The salary was originally discussed as (say Xk) but the recruiter I'm working with said today that they "realigned the goals" and brought the salary down to (Xk-10). I wasn't even okaay with Xk tbh, and now they've gone ahead and reduced it by 10k! I'm attending the final round on Friday - do y'all have any tips on how I can negotiate my salary to X+10 and let them know that this is highly unprofessional?

I work in insurance. I was working for an Allstate agent and was fired the day after my grandmothers funeral for being “unenthusiastic in our morning meeting”. Now I’m having anxiety searching for a job. I don’t think I want to sell anymore yet every single recruiter I interview with says I should, that I have a “salesperson mentality”. I’m burnt out. Has anyone else felt this way? How did handle it? Is there a different career path I can take or am I destined to sell insurance forever?

My school is a small rural school. We don’t offer many in-house electives. What’s happening is students are having to take whatever is there to fill their schedules. If they aren’t interested in the class, then it becomes an opportunity for disruptions because they aren’t interested. What are some electives you have at your school that are new, innovative and interesting for todays high school students?
