Team Grassley got smart and hired Rachel Mitchell, a26 year veteran sex crimes prosecutor and bureau chief to question Ford and Brett

I think Sarah Huckabee Sanders also reminded us how committed the GOP is to ensuring every Supreme Court nominee receives a vote. I was personally confused on this point after the delay on Merrick Garland, but now I’ve been set straight.

like

Ok. So he hasn’t decided but you have?

like

GT, yeah because hiring a woman to question the specious allegations of sex crimes charged by another woman is losing their male backbone. Women know more about other women and the games they play, then men do. It’s a fair and reasonable assumption. Only egotistical, insecure, easily played men think otherwise. To assert otherwise frankly qualifies as the most ignorant and @$$ backward statement on this thread.

And he’s so interested to find out what each have to say in response to the questioning that he’s scheduled a vote on Friday. Or am I missing something?

like

He has stated that it is a “possible vote” and will depend on the outcome of their sworn testimony. #timesup on the dem delay tactics

Short of Kavanaugh pulling a Louis CK on the Senate floor on Thursday, he is getting through. There’s just far too much at stake for each side to give up. Getting a conservative majority on the SC has been a wet dream for the Federalist society for the last 3 decades. If they can tolerate someone as morally decrepit and mind numbingly incompetent as Trump for president, Kavanaugh’s past actions will hardly keep R’s up at night. To be fair Kavanaugh’s profile is that of an eminent jurist despite the blemishes that are now appearing. His political/social leanings are immaterial and it is the prerogative of the president to nominate and senate to ratify. But hard to defend anything from across the aisle now. McConnell poisoned the well by blocking Garland and we are witnessing the destruction of an institution. Brick by brick....

like

Sadly, the continued hearings will have minimal impact. Almost every Democrat was on record as a no vote regardless of who was nominated. Just to oppose Trump. This will come down to a partisan vote and will determine if character assassination using 30+ year old unprovable statements is now a viable tactic for controlling who can win a seat via the nomination process for every post that is filled this way. Every person in the country should be afraid of this precedent and how it can be used against anyone

like

They didn’t hire a woman to cross examine her because she has some special insight into the “games” women play, they did so because the sight of an all male judiciary committee grilling and undermining a woman over her sexual assault claims is very bad optics, especially in 2018. They want to avoid Anita Hill backlash redux.

like

Let’s be honest here, the system is RIGGED! Trump to Mitch, all have clearly stated their intention to go forward regardless

like

Every single Democrat on the committee has already decided. The hearing will not change anything so there is no reason to delay.

like

And Ford's attorney immediately protested bringing in said counsel to ask questions.

like

The GOP in the senate judiciary have the balls to dismiss the allegations against Kavanaugh on TV and in interviews. But at the prospect of questioning Ford face to face, they’ve decided to abdicate their responsibility and hire a woman to do it for them. They’re political hacks with no backbone. I have no doubt that they’ll welcome the day when women start resorting to back alley abortions, and impoverished minority women start having babies at higher rates. At least they have a history of supporting the weakest and most destitute members of our society. Oh wait, they’ll probably just enact another tax cut on millionaires. That’ll surely make America Great again.

like

Yea absurd criticism. Chuck Grassley asking graphic sex questions would go in every dems campaign ads if they tried to cross examine.

like

"Mr. President, where the nation should be treated to a consideration of constitutional philosophy, all it will get in such circumstances is a partisan bickering and political posturing from both parties and from both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. As a result, it is my view that if a Supreme Court Justice resigns tomorrow, or within the next several weeks, or resigns at the end of the summer, President Bush should consider following the practice of a majority of his predecessors and not — and not — name a nominee until after the November election is completed." - Mitch McConnell

RSM1, so has every Republican in the senate. They actually decided the moment Kavanaugh was announced. Everything is partisan. Even application of standards of good conduct.

Actually, I think most of the Democrats decided to vote against based on his ideology, which is fair. So this allegation doesn’t change anything — at most adds another reason to vote against.

@VP1 You’re delusional if you think hiring a woman is the GOPs method of ensuring we obtain the truth. They’ve already decided they don’t care what the truth is - this is a purely political stunt to avoid having to question Ford and looking insensitive. They know they were on the wrong side of history during the Anita Hill hearings, so instead of questioning Ford themselves, they’ll have a woman do it, and then vote to confirm regardless of the testimony. Let’s remember, this is a testimony, not a trial.

Does it mean anything specifically when a company/firm reposts their position? I went on a phone screen and it went really well (so I thought) and got the interview with a AmLaw200 firm. I thought the interview went okay but then 8 days later no contact and I saw that they reposted the position. I’ve had my position for almost 8 months and I’m ready to leave but that’s another story.

HYPOTHETICAL: Your divorce client found what is likely very illegal drugs in their spouse’s suitcase (they innocently borrowed the suitcase). There’s no legitimate chain of custody here for an arrest. How would you use this in the custody case? Would you simply have police pick it up from your office and fill out a report (knowing they won’t test the substance for a definitive conclusion)? The type of presumed drug exits the system within 4 days so a court ordered drug test may be useless.
