I’m a black woman and I am reeling over George Floyd, but personally my mind can’t stop thinking about what happened to Breonna Taylor because that could’ve easily happened to me. This is clear injustice as well and the protests should continue. Not enough people are speaking about her. If you don’t know about this story, then READ. https://justiceforbreonna.org/

After 10 years, last two filled with sexual harassment, abuse and bullying I formed an exit strategy. Took almost a year to fully execute. I laid groundwork for 6 months prior with HR. Boss and male co-workers (who harassed me) were fired or laid off, I stayed for a few weeks after then just didn't come back in one Monday. I went on FMLA medical leave with full pay & medical benefits for 6 months and then resigned the end of last year. Left on my terms and gave myself the space and time to execute my next phase of life.
Thanks! I appreciate that.

I worked in a mid sized CPA firm. Had a female partner who was a real piece of work. Choose 1 person a day to completely humiliate.
Tax season, end of March and she chose me. After an hour of her destroying me, I got up and walked out. The manager came running after me trying to talk me back. I wouldn't.
Was the only time in my life I walked out on a job. I cried the entire way home, but it felt good.
@pwc2 Someone has to stand up for those underprivileged men in leadership positions.
The most iconic story I’ve got is from an old company I worked at:
One of our devs said “Fuck it, I’m done.” hung up the phone on his manager, packed his things and walked out the door at about 2 in the afternoon. Initially no one realized what had happened... but he said “it’s been real” and left the following Napoleon Dynamite meme in our group chat. That was the last anyone saw of him.
I'm a fresh grad, left after 1 month in an advertising agency because I didn't feel that the mentorship I receive is progressive. I also kept suffering from anxiety attacks. People keep saying that I should stay but left anyway to another advertising agency, now my mental health is better. Everything that I was looking for in my past agency is given to me (better than expected to be honest) and I can definitely feel the growth. Glad that I listened to my gut haha.
Didn’t quit but got let go a few weeks ago. My self esteem is down the gutter 😭
Don’t go there. You got this!

Man this thread took a dark turn...came here bc of The Office meme looking for something to brighten my day
Same here. This might be worth a read instead, it’s hilarious: https://www.askamanager.org/2017/10/resigning-via-cod-a-glorious-out-of-office-message-and-other-quitting-stories.html

I feel like this bowl needs a refresher on The Office and the fact that it’s a comedy...
I told the top two people at my company previously that they could go F*CK themselves. They were not expecting that.... it felt soooooo good....
Another consultant I know had a talk with the lead partner in our OP Unit, when asked why do you want to leave he replied “my mom doesn’t think this is a good job”.
Dealt with PPD, depression, anxiet and tried to kill myself. That’s when I knew I had to go. But I cried like a baby on my last day. EY has been my everything to me and I thought I was gonna stay forever. But I needed to focus on myself first.
VMLY&R - such kind words. Thank you! Logically, I know you're right. I'm going to save this to read in those hard moments

I started working at a digital agency early in my career. Was hired for a position below my level but they paid me what I asked so I took it. Turns out my boss was only there because she has a famous father (he’s a very famous hollywood composer, not even related to the role). She would literally copy/paste my emails and send them to clients like they were her words. Talked to HR about it and they were not helpful. Then went on a company retreat and found out I made almost double what others at my level were making. I was clearly hired to do the work of my boss. Left after less than 2 months without another job, never looked back. Gave 2 weeks notice but left after one I was so mad about the situation.
Agency had been on and off falling apart for over a year. Had been dealing with alcoholism, at least twice a month I flat out wouldn’t show up or call in. Finally I gave two weeks notice via text to our GCD, then switched it to one month once I realized I needed the money. On my last day, a senior team announced they were leaving, marking 5 seniors to leave in the first two months of 2020. Still waiting on my next position but damnit happy I ain’t stuck in the tailspin of that creative department.
On the real let’s remember at the end of the day we make videos/images that people try to actively avoid seeing. It’s not the end all be all and the Cannes crowd are just jerking off to themselves. Our agency jobs will exert as much control over us as we let them. I say take the skills they teach us and learn to use them somewhere else that allows us to pursue our calling in a deeper way.
Not worth slitting wrists or jumping off of balconies over. Trust me, I’ve done the analysis. Most people I talk to outside of advertising say I’m the most creative person they know. That’s just off of what I learned from the industry. That’s what’s waiting for us. Idk...its all about the Benjamin’s baby? Work the job or have the job work you.

I tried to make the Olympic swim team for the 2000 games and didn’t (just) so quit the sport altogether. Barely ever swam again.
I straight up ghosted a shitty agency I was doing an unpaid internship. The owner was a bonafide racist and called me and another coworker racial slurs for a few weeks until I had enough and just stopped showing up.
The agency shut down like a year later and I’m still going strong as a creative in a much, much better place making ads for one of the biggest brands in the world.
So yeah, worth it.
