Displaying student work so they take pride every day they walk into my room! Creating a climate and culture where they feel safe, proud, and supported

like

Respect. We practice thank you, please, excuse me, etc.

like

Inclusivity and openness. Everyone has a voice and I’m transparent so students feel comfortable with speaking their minds in a respectful fashion.

like

Respect. I earn their respect. And they earn mine. I also focus on building relationships with my kids first, teaching them math second. It creates an environment where the student wants to come to my class every day

I love all these responses! Keep them coming! I agree it is all about relationships!

I love seeing my students excited about what they are learning!

Relationships, positive attitude (no matter my actual mood), praise, and love

Respect. And a space that students who they will always have two adults that will help them with whatever it needs without making them feel otherwise

How do you legally handle having your plan time taken for the 4th week in a row? Each day each week,, an announcement comes on saying it has been canceled and we have to keep our students. Union is not doing anything. We have such a shortage of teachers, our special, electives, encore, whatever you may call it have been put into classrooms because we are so short staffed. How can I legally fight for my time without union backing?

Anyone have advice for talking to teachers in your school that are upset with you?
My 4th grade class didn’t show up today because the teachers are upset that student behaviors that are an issue in music are carrying over to their classroom. I understand their frustration, but nothing was communicated with me. I even thought things were going better this week.

What are some alternative items you use in the classroom instead of having to buy supplies? I get so tired of purchasing items only for them to be destroyed so I’m looking for other suggestions.

After 18 years, I lost my art room to a classroom this year in order to spread out kids due to Covit19. They said we can’t hand out papers.. kinda thinking art is remote for all. I will do lessons on google classroom with live lesson to classrooms and home. I was told special area teachers may be “repurposed”. We will be used like a TA. One class will be spread out two rooms.Aday teacher in one room, I help in other room. B day teachers switch 😳😷☹️.. I know I’m lucky to have a job but.

Ok…I’m curious. I pretty much have to beg, barter and steal to get supplies for my classroom. Do teachers in states with legal cannabis have this problem? It’s my understanding that sales tax from its purchase goes to schools, or is that all smoke and mirrors…No pun intended. 😉

I am a middle school social studies teacher and my husband is a high school art teacher. He has been an art teacher for a very long time and he’s not super proficient with Google classroom but I am. I have been helping him with lesson online resources & creating hyper docs for the lessons. He is struggling with the students not having a lot of supplies at home and how to have them create multiple day art pieces. he teaches at a low income area, how is everyone handling supplies to students?
