Tested positive for COVID yesterday.

10 full days would mean isolation until 12/31.

Am I being selfish for wanting to ask the host if I can still go to the party if I test negative that day?

I think it’s perfectly reasonable. They shorten the isolation period in the UK to seven days

Not selfish to ask but selfish to go if you test positive on the day of, even if no symptoms

Don’t say anything, just go. We’re all bound to get it at this point. And if the people are going to a party on NYE, they’re very okay with the risk of explore.

Agree you should ask the host, I don't think it's selfish. Especially not if you actually test negative by then.

like

If I was the host I would ask you to please stay home.

likefunny

If you test 24 hours before and right before and they’re both negative, I don’t see the issue

like

10 full days from the start of your symptoms, if you’re symptomatic. are you?

like

if your symptoms started before today, then you should be fine! note that you may still test positive for days/weeks after the isolation period is over. if you’re not presenting new/worsening symptoms closer to the date, you’re probably fine.

like

You should talk to the host and let them know. It’s probably not a big deal especially by 12/31 if that’s the date you’re talking about.

like

I just want to know how amazing this party is supposed to be that you’re willing to risk maybe killing someone or making everyone you know and their families sick??? You should probably stay home, but I can take that invite off your hands.

like

If I was the host and you asked me this question, it would have been a no from me dawg.

like

Go to your party

like

It’s 10 days from your symptoms, with day 1 being the day after you began experiencing symptoms. You’re likely a few/couple days into that already.

like

Then you should be good to go, assuming your symptoms go away. If your symptoms are gone you can still test positive but not be contagious as others have said here, so I wouldn’t necessarily wait for a negative test. If you google your question the first links are straight from CDC.

like

I tested on day 10 and it was still positive.

like

But that doesn’t mean you’re contagious. You can have small portions of the virus that don’t shed that’ll show positive for months after.

like

Are you vaxxed?

I would ask the host to gauge their acceptance, honestly though, and part of this is because im an introvert, I still wouldn’t go. Partly because I’m not trying to get anyone sick and I wouldn’t be pumped to be around that many people sick or not.

Ask. It’s their party, so they get to decide the level of risk they’re interesting in taking on. If it were your party, you’d probably appreciate the same respect.

Test a few more times. IMO the NFL has a solid policy, if Vaxxed and test negative 2 days in a row your clear.

Everyone is different and their body’s react different as well. 2 consecutive days of negative tests very likely means you’re rid of the virus. Number of days is just a very conservative estimate with the assumption you won’t test once they’ve passed.

TL;DR, tests don’t mean anything after diagnose and during isolation. Complete your 10 days (240h) of isolation. You should be okay by NYE.

December 31 will be your last day of isolation if your symptoms started on the 21st (it’s 240h isolated). I had covid a month ago and the doctor’s recommendation was to not get tested for 90 days since you can still test positive even if you’re not contagious.

Before this advice, I got two rapid tests 24 apart, also got a PCR lab test which was positive. This was when the doctor called me to say I should stay away from tests and if I had new symptoms to call them and see if I should get tested.

You aren’t supposed to test for 90 days because you will likely test positive even though you aren’t sick or contagious anymore. I would isolate and if it’s over a day or two earlier I’d go. If it’s done day of party I would talk to the host and see how they feel - would they be ok with you coming after you’ve been isolated for 10 days, even though 10th day is day of party and you aren’t feeling sick. To me the worst thing that can happen is someone gets COVID (likely) and they’ll find out about you and blame you for not letting people know.

Also wondering if your friend is requiring proof of vaccination?
