I accepted my Amazon offer on 5/23 via email as told by the recruiter who also took down my social via telephone and send me a old school pdf to fill out for a my background screening. On 6/3 I received an email from Amazon’s version of docusign to sign my offer, and yesterday 6/8 I was notified by the recruiter that my start date would be delayed to 6/20 due to background not being completed. People dictating emails that they otherwise could just send themselves. Honestly wtf is this? It takes less time to just write something. It often doesn’t even feel like a didactic method, just a way to hide under more junior associates. There is a senior who does this constantly, over the phone, and it’s just ducking intolerable. Even with emails directed at them, I get a call that then tells me to respond and write back X. It can be such an insufferable thing that just kills time.

Is it appropriate to approach a junior you were impressive with on the other side of a deal to see if they’d like to join? We’re hiring and it would be moving from like a v50 to v5. If so, how do you do it, just give them a call post-deal?

When should a stub start getting worried about not having much work and low billable hours?
I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.

If you do billable work on a given PTO/vacation day, do you still count that day as vacation? Or do you get that vacation day "back"? Or do you only get the part that you billed "back"? (Or some other option.)

Finding that deal work and ADHD are a tough mix. Really struggling to keep up with all the components, characters and documents. Enjoy drafting corporate docs and opinions. Really like research/writing and creative problem solving. Are there any transactional practices that involve larger projects with fewer moving pieces?

For the last four weeks or so of WFH I’ve been making it to my desk around 7:30/8am and working basically without a break—lunch at desk- but cannot maintain momentum past like 6:30/7:30pm. Most of the day is billable work, but I cannot bring myself to finish outstanding assignments after 8pm, but then feel so guilty when I’m not working past that time. Am I burnout or fucked up? (Also I hate this gig & am not in it for the long haul, just hate not turning things quickly)
