My boss the general manager is setting me up at work. She is saying all this stuff about me that is not true at all. But when I come into her shift or come into my shift after hers nothing is done for me. A lot of the prep is not done. And she complains about me not doing the prep. Stuff Is still dirty. One day she left the grill on. Etc. There was another manager there training to run another store and she said I basically do a lot of the work while she doesn't do much. So she stood up for me.

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

Another annoying question from someone who isn’t in-house (yet). Anyone have thoughts on how fast things typically (understanding that each company is different) move once interviews and writing samples are done? Had my screened and 3 sets of callbacks in pretty rapid succession last week, and submitted my writing samples on Tuesday to my HR contact, but I haven’t heard anything since.

Is going in-house second year a mistake? Have a good offer, base pay is same as 2022 milbank/cravath, bonus will probably shake out higher, maybe ~300 all in with great benefits. Is it worth maybe walking away from big law and better options down the road?

I got a job in-house 6 months after working at a law firm. I really love the work I’m doing (a little bit of everything) but am not getting the mentorship and training I should be getting. Do you think I should try to get a job at a law firm and then try to go back in-house in 2-3 years? Or just try to switch companies to get better mentorship?

Has anyone recently made the switch to in house and now feel unorganized and less productive than when billing hours? For what it is worth, I’ve received good reviews and my superiors seems to be pleased with my work. Litigation was just so task based because of needing to hit billables, so without that requirement I feel a little like a fish out of water.

For those who went from private practice to in-house, what are some questions you wish you asked during interviews? I'm coming from a large regional firm, 9 YOE as a patent attorney, just had a first interview for a Senior IP counsel position at a profitable R+D company. Just wondering what I should be looking for or asking as far as red flags, because things seem really good so far.

Contract flow downs question. We are selling equipment to Company X so that they can sell to Company Y. Company Y is trying to push some owner flow down provisions to us. Our initial contract with Company X doesn’t include those flow downs. Would you push back? Is that standard/necessary for flow downs to go that far? Any insight is helpful.

Any strong feelings against going in-house in a junior corporate counsel role? I am currently interviewing at Assurance IQ and Smartsheet, and I'm excited about them both.

FWIW, I'm at a boutique law firm, and while there is still lots of learning I could do, I don't think the niche is a good fit, and all signs are telling me to leave. I'm a 2019 grad, did a year-long state clerkship, and have been at this firm for just under 1.5 years.
