I, a childless woman who does not plan to have kids, am jealous of the parental leave parents get to take from work from choosing to have a child (a big life event). I 100% understand that they are working in a different way by taking care of the baby and being deliriously worn out in the process, but it makes me sort of jealous that unless I have a kid there is no life event that I can take ~3 months away from work to focus on and enjoy, plus have my hours prorated and a job to come back to.

Do they verify military duty dates, or can I just enter military PTO when needed. Sometimes dates change or I want to add a day prior for travel or something. Do they need to see published orders dates for military PTO?

Do most other firms roll over unused PTO or pay it out at year's end?

What's the etiquette around reminders about pre-Thanksgiving emails/tasks/etc? On one hand, I don't want to be the guy who emails people a reminder at 8am on the Monday after the holiday weekend as if they weren't busy, but on the other hand, the people had 1-3 business days (after considering PTO and holiday time, because the tasks are from the 19th and 22nd) to handle or reply, and they have not yet.

Hi friends! I'm relatively new at an awards competition company. I just found out my boss is leaving to pursue a creative director role somewhere else. I still have a lot to learn in this position but I'm confident that I can step up to the plate and fill in where my boss left off. However, I'm not so sure the rest of my team shares that same confidence in me... Any advice/tips on how I can really prove myself to people/company?
