Your theory implies that the reason the ad industry lacks diversity is that the low level employees are mean, rather than any corporate or economic or recruiting policies by the companies themselves. I find this unlikely .


No. In my industry, diversifying the industry and making it more open to more people is a major issue at virtually every union shop. Many of us have gotten rules and resources in our contracts to promote diversity. So in my experience the opposite of what you’re saying is true. Unions are a tool that can be used to fight for whatever is important to you .


Thank you for replying. If unions are a tool used to fight for whatever is important to existing workers, then hasn’t the existing ad industry proved, after all this time with little to no improvement (and backsliding in others), that diversity isn’t a real priority at all? How can diversity possibly get better in a hothouse environment-type industry like ours where who’s allowed in and to participate will tighten even further with a union?

I'm coming back to work after a leave and I have zero motivation to deal again with the nonsense of being discriminated and watching how minority has zero support to climb up the ladder or getting promoted and if you call them out, they pretend that it's not them it's you. I went to an Ivy for undergrad but also got into all the UCs. My main reason for choosing Ivy was for relatively more diversity since they use affirmative action compared to UCs at the time which was not (and therefore had many many more Asians). As I reflect on my four years there I still see the value in Affirmative Action because by being so much closer with people who were different than me, I learned so much more about the world.

Hi, I am a single-parent with a 9 year old daughter. Is anyone else dealing with same gender sleepovers with sexual exploration occurring? Exploring as in my daughter says outright “I am going to kiss you,” to her bestie before bed. Then after 15 minutes of giggling in bed I go to tell them to be quiet and see my daughter’s bestie is showing her buttcheeks to my daughter. To top it off they start trying to tell me they are laughing because they are reading “belly laugh books for kids”. Help.


How about creating a list of all of the Head of Diversity and Inclusion folks at some of the top creative agencies...could be useful for a lot of us.


To practice what we preach from an Inclusion and Diversity perspective, wouldn’t it be beneficial to use diverse teams of interviewers? Are any B4s making an effort towards that?
