Not drinking on travel days means feeling fresher on arrival, not having dried out skin and excessive thirst from dehydration, and being more on your toes for dealing with anything unexpected (delays, cancellations, etc.) If you need more motivation, think about all the other reasons you’ve come up with for not drinking. Free drinks aren’t really that free when you start to think about the consequences of them.
As another poster said, come up with a new standard drink order (I do sparkling water or club soda with a lime) and/or treat yourself to a Starbucks in the airport. Once you break the engrained habit, it’s easier and becomes second nature.
Same here! Just get through the moment when they ask you. After that they don’t come back for a while. I got myself a new plane drink- tonic water with a splash of cranberry. In first class. It’s refreshing but still has the taste of a drink.
Force a new habit. No airport drinking. Sparkling water for bubbles if I need or want them. I treat the airport like the bus/train station. If I’m not grabbing a drink on that commute, then I’m not grabbing a drink at the airport.
Get that desire chip and keep it with you. As one occasional meeting leader I know says “if you put it under your tongue and it melts, then you are allowed to have a drink”.
sooo following up on this post cause I found some good advice! I'm 1.5 hours away from being 1 month sober and doing my evening scroll through the various alcoholism subreddits that I have found helpful.
someone said that you can page a friend of Bill at the airport to a nearby gate. he and others said they've done it and another alcoholic has come met them for a meeting. I thought this was a cool idea and something I'll listen for from now on!
