The amount of love I feel for my cute new pet, including the motivation he gives me to get out of bed in the morning, makes me wonder how much more having a child could change one's life for the better.. 🐣

Having a child is an incredible blessing and evokes a kind of love you've never felt before. It will also challenge you mentally and physically in ways that you didn't think were possible. While your dog or bird will always love and try to please you, your child will scream, argue, and disagree. Thats why it is such a huge decision. You need to realize you have to be bigger than your existing capabilities and truly learn to empathize with someone else.

Right? It ain't for everyone. I am thankful for my munchkin but there is no earthly possibility for me to have another go at a 2nd kid, knowing how much work was involved with the first.

Last night my dog couldn’t settle down because of the thunderstorm. I had to go sleep on the floor (on a yoga mat) with her (I guess she doesn’t think the high bed is safe enough?). Eventually we were able to find our ways into the quieter guest bedroom where we fell asleep together. I had to laugh when I thought about how much I’m willing to do for her. She just needed me to stay by her side to get through the night and I felt so loved. I’m pregnant so expecting to have another living being dependent on me soon and can’t wait to experience this feeling with my baby!

Nothing gets you out of bed quite like a kid walking in and puking on you in the middle of the night.

I love my puppy so much. She is my child.

@Associate 2 Do you prefer white wines? I assure you dog pairs better with red wines.

Motivation to get out of bed equals 3 year old banging on your bedroom door until you get out of bed in this house 🤣 she's very cute though!

Eh, pet’s don’t talk. Children eventually do.

Got a puppy in August and had the same thought!!!! (Except also wondering if I even need a human kid now, because I love my dog so damn much and humans are ten times harder)

A child is 10x more work. Just imagine having 10 dogs. Still cute but a lot more work.

Someone rightly told me long ago that children would bring both my greatest joys and my greatest sorrows. I love my children beyond words, but I am not sure I would decide to do it again after all of the anxiety it still brings me. You never stop worrying about them even when they become adults. Puppies are easier! You get the joy side with much less worry!

But perhaps not as much joy

Is this the new lockdown trend? Are people going to start having kids just to spice up their lives?

Sourdough, gardening, puzzles....& kids. ✅✅✅✅

I’ve been thinking the same thing lately! How to have a child when you work 10-12 hours a day, most days of the week though...not even time to take care of myself + walk my dog as much as I’d like.

You make impossible decisions. That is what happens. Because advertising is not hospitable to families.

Kids are great. However, diaper changing, round-the-clock feedings, middle of the night bed intrusions, constant fear of inadequate parenting, constant fear of the world going to shit for their future really sucks. Just save some $$$ and start traveling more when restrictions are lifted. But get an automatic bird-feeder for your feathered baby first, before you go!

Did anyone's brains just stop working while pregnant? I'm 13 weeks and can only manage to work half days. I'll sit at my computer for 12 hours and bill only 3-4 hours instead of my standard 8-10. I have work to do, but zero motivation or availability to focus unless there's a looming deadline. Does this phase pass? Did this happen to anyone else?

Our nanny takes my 7 month old out for one, sometimes 2, long walks every day (weather permitting). Love the idea of fresh air every day but its often for several hours at a time and he always returns home crying bc she's pushed him to his limit between feedings. She brushes it off saying hes just fussy which kind of irks me. Im also concerned that he's spending too much time strapped in a stroller. Is it reasonable to ask her to take shorter walks? Am I overreacting?

As someone who never plans/wants to get married or have kids, I know I’ll never get back the money I spent on my friends’ weddings, bachelor parties, kids birthdays etc. I know that and I was fine with it because they’re my friends. Not cause I didn’t want to, but just ran out of time and honestly I don’t know what 8year olds are in to and I’ll just give the parents a gift cards later (cont)

Friend runs a company and hired a VP of Sales to help grow the business. Guy got some relocation $ and was supposed to start 2 months ago. Ever since he said his kid had an accident and from that point on kept pushing the start date back claiming he has to do something related to the accident. He hasn’t sent any proof to HR, has been requested twice claims he will but then doesn’t. And has pushed his start date back half a dozen times. How should I advice him to proceed?

Feeling like my firm has a very outdated parental leave policy (and none of the women partners have children)! What is the parental leave policy at your firm? Please include: (1) size of firm; (2) location of firm (city, state); (3) how many paid weeks off from firm (not state/fed benefits); (4) other policies such as ramp up/down time, etc.

I currently make 60LPA in Hyderabad and my firm has an offer for 150k in Chicago. Is it worth? I am generally happy with the package in India and have good savings as I own my house in Hyderabad and I am not a lavish spender. I have been onsite in US previously with an allowance but I did not go crazy over the so called American experience. Single earner with one kid.
