This. I have unlimited PTO and take 5-6 weeks (25-30 days) as a rule. However, my company gave us 24 days pre-unlimited so I feel like I’m just taking what I’m owed
5 weeks. It’s what I worked pre unlimited PTO and I’m going to continue to AT LEAST take that many now.
Im at Area23, I’ve taken 3 weeks so far this year. It ends up being handy when client work is slow, and it’s got more utility in spending hours on FTO than billing admin.
Hmm, I have always wanted to know the answer to that myself. I don't know why but unlimited paid time off always feels like a trick and I never want to over do it.
Yep, there’s been studies that show generally, people take fewer days off with unlimited PTO than a fixed number of PTOs. It’s a total scam but try damn hard to map out 3-4 weeks off in the next 12 months and stick to it.
As many as you need. If you find yourself taking a third or a fourth of the year off, you're probably doing to much. Other than that, schedule the vacations and mental health days that you need, and add a few for emergencies.
They do it so they don’t have to pay you for unused vacation days when they lay you off. Use 5 weeks minimum
The conversation around this where I work is that it is pegged to "utilization." If you are being fully utilized 23-25 days would be about 10% of available working days and that is not excessive. If you put in a lot of overtime then you can take more days. If you don't bill to your full expected capacity then you will have more conversations around that. Basically the benchmark is that 90% of your year minus weekends and holidays should be spent making money for the company. Hope that helps.
