I’m currently at a non-profit that works with federal agency clients on human capital projects (basically federal consulting). After not receiving an expected promotion, I began applying for jobs & was connected with a Partner at Guidehouse. We had a great convo about my skills/interests & their work, and I’m currently having convos with some directors about potentially joining their teams. How should I approach those convos to close the deal? I’d appreciate any advice about the company, pay…
Check to see if you take extra leave or use your sick days etc. if you then are required to return for a certain number of days after your leave in order to be paid for those. You can research other opportunities while you are feeding or the baby is napping. Best of luck.
I’m sorry you’re dealing with that. It’s crazy that companies still don’t provide parental leave.
If you’re already pregnant, one piece to consider is that you won’t be eligible for FMLA at a new job (being there for 12 months is one of the criteria). If you do decide to look elsewhere, make sure you get clarity around when you’re eligible for parental leave before making the move - if there’s a 1 year waiting period for company leave, you could find yourself without any benefits, worse off than you are now.
Also, look into state leaves. Depending on where you live you may qualify for paid leave through the state. It may not be 100% pay but could at least be something.
Unless a new company will offer you better parental benefits immediately, it probably makes sense to take what you can get at your current company and jump ship for something better as soon as possible when your leave is done.
