It's high time to stop coddling HCOL and start paying the same roles equally across geographies. Value delivered does not change based on where you sit. If you're not going to cut pay for the people who take their HCOL salaries to LCOL, the only way forward is to eliminate geography based pay and start paying everyone the same. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-12-06/goldman-plots-florida-base-for-asset-management-in-a-blow-to-nyc

Run! Start looking for a new job/new company now when the writing is on the wall! My boyfriend’s former employer when we first starting dating (6 years ago) had mass cuts on salaries before mass layoffs. He barely managed to find a decent paying role with another company before his division was downsized but his salary was cut by 15% with no sign of it going back to normal. He had to leave before he was let go or before they took more of his salary he relied on for bills!
100% agree. I’d also like to add that after mergers the team that acquired the company usually brings in a lot of “their people” and starts laying off the previous teams. I saw this at my previous company and my father’s company that was acquired before the recession (2012/2013 market)- he’s the last remaining employee before the merge.
With how this market is, I’d be tailoring my résumé and reaching out to old friends/colleagues to see if they’d submit a referral for me at their companies. It seems to be the best way to get your foot in the door right now even though “everyone’s hiring.” Get out while you can and ask for a salary you deserve (probably more than you’re making now). Good luck!
Run as fast as you can. We got bought by private equity Thoma Bravo and it’s been hell since. This commission move was the first thing they did.
This happened to me too - immediately started looking for a new role and left six months later
