The company I'm currently at was purchased by a larger competitor in 2020. Our annual reviews are each March and I found out that the current practice of the new company that they are now implementing is to have NO commission plans for anyone. My commission makes up 25% of my salary. I have heard through reliable sources that they won't be matching my salary + commission. My role isn't changing. Has anyone gone through something similar and what did you do?

Run! Start looking for a new job/new company now when the writing is on the wall! My boyfriend’s former employer when we first starting dating (6 years ago) had mass cuts on salaries before mass layoffs. He barely managed to find a decent paying role with another company before his division was downsized but his salary was cut by 15% with no sign of it going back to normal. He had to leave before he was let go or before they took more of his salary he relied on for bills!

100% agree. I’d also like to add that after mergers the team that acquired the company usually brings in a lot of “their people” and starts laying off the previous teams. I saw this at my previous company and my father’s company that was acquired before the recession (2012/2013 market)- he’s the last remaining employee before the merge.

With how this market is, I’d be tailoring my résumé and reaching out to old friends/colleagues to see if they’d submit a referral for me at their companies. It seems to be the best way to get your foot in the door right now even though “everyone’s hiring.” Get out while you can and ask for a salary you deserve (probably more than you’re making now). Good luck!

Run as fast as you can. We got bought by private equity Thoma Bravo and it’s been hell since. This commission move was the first thing they did.

I wasn’t informed of the results and reached out, but the recruiter isn’t replying to my emails. Does this mean I was rejected?

Took a Controller position a year ago at a PE-acquired Manufacturing Company after 7 years of PA. No support staff. Making $76k. 2021's merit increase offering was $2k. The YE Bonus ended up as $1,200(Insulting, especially for accomplishments achieved this past year alone).

Given my position and knowledge of future increases budgeted (another insulting $2k increase), how do I bring up the issue of severely being underpaid, when Robert Half Salary guide says median salary in my area is 125K.

I'm seriously thinking of changing companies and careers after almost 20 years. I do not dislike where I am. I have many great colleagues there, and know the inner workings quite well. I've had multiple different careers within it.

This is for those who have left a company after 10+ years. Why did you do it? Do you have any regrets? Are you happy with your decision?

I just want to use my transferable skills to recruit the next generation of talent (I work with them currently) to help your business. Just asking for one chance. 🙏

Any tips or suggestions on what kind of questions to ask during an informal coffee chat with an employee of the company I'll be applying to? This person is not on the hiring team, but it's a small company so I'm sure they'll talk with the hiring team after.

This would a fairly significant career switch for me after being at my current company for just over 10 years (with ~100 employees) to join a newish but profitable small company with only 13 employees.

Thanks!
