The desks in our classrooms are currently being arranged by administrators to provide six foot spacing for students. A teacher asked if a safe area with the same spacing will be provided for the teacher to teach from and the response was a simple "no". Very concerning.

While all your concerns are understandable and valid please understand that maybe you could adjust your wardrobe so you can wear not only a mask but may be a shield if necessary and some kind of protective covering over your clothes just like they do when you get your nails done and haircut. Also please remember that nurses, doctors and all the other essential workers in the healthcare profession (which by the way I believe teachers are essential workers) went to their jobs every day and did them. I believe we have to push through While taking all the care possible to be safe from all perspectives. Children need educators in the room in front of them so they can learn better. I don’t think distance-learning replaces that. This is just my opinion of course I want everyone to feel comfortable and safe.

Teachers aren’t supplied scrubs, masks, shields, gloves, or comparable pay. Otherwise - I’m right with you. I can’t give my students the same attention online, or from 6feet away. It’s a horrible situation that’s happening right now and I’m sure we’ll see negative effects on these students down the road.

like

Wow! We have strict rules from our administration to keep 6 feet away from all students. We are to socially distance all students desks unless it interferes with our teacher bubble. “Protect yourselves first” is what our administration says. We have completed 17 in person school days and no teacher in the entire district has had to quarantine. So far it’s working!

Give it less than a week. Someone will contract covid and schools will go remote. It’s happening all over. Prayers for you all as you become covid warriors !!

MS teacher. That is the norm. As long as you are wearing a mask no quarantine. They have been applying that in manufacturing plants across the country as well.

I've been back to school with face to face teaching and very few doing a virtual option. I can tell you that once students come in, all protocols & precautions are out the window. I teach 10th - 12th graders. I remind them 30 secs before the bell rings to sanitize their hands, bell rings, half of them don't do it. All they are thinking about is talking to friends. They touch their masks, faces, and eyes all day unconsciously & reminding doesn't work because there are way too many students to each adult. It's like putting your finger in a dam. If any student gets close to someone with the virus, I'm almost 100% sure we'll have an outbreak. And we're a small school. To be safe, kids need to be all virtual or the virus needs to be gone or there needs to be a vaccine before we're back in school.

I’m putting blue painters tape on the floor around my teacher desk - 3 feet (that’s all the space I have). Day #1, Lesson #1 - DO NOT CROSS THE BLUE LINE. This lesson can be modified depending on the students’ learning modalities. And yes, the lesson will be taught to my fellow teachers & admin too.

Just keep sending kids to the admins office to say hello😉 see if the admin appreciates the gesture of kindness.

YES!!!! This!!!!

Unfortunately, teachers are considered cannon fodder by a lot of our "leaders."

Always remember that there are more teachers than administrators.

If you will be 6 feet away from nearest student that helps. Also ask if you can bring in an air purifier with a HEPA filter. If the schools will not update their filters, we need to protect our own rooms

like

Unfortunately, teachers are moving from room to room, not the students.

You may want to involve the union on that issue!

We simply cannot be as effective from 6 feet. Students often ask questions they don’t want any other students hearing. Those students will be forced to ask those embarrassing questions or they will be left unanswered.

I was told there wouldn’t be any space requirement today. Basically laughed at me when I said “it’s 6 feet right “?

likefunny

Yup. Even with reduced numbers of students are school is extremely small. We usually sit elbow to elbow.

like

Is that to not restrict the movement of the teacher? I feel like someone needs to ask why. We are being told that we will have a 6 foot safe area at the front of the class that we need to stay in while teaching, but that our students will be 3 feet apart. Our teacher desks need to also be within a 6 foot area. I’m not sure if they mean the same 6 foot area and that I’ll be teaching from my desk.

smarthelpful

Ours is 8 foot

like

I'm just happy you get 6'. Our super has convinced himself that 3' is all we need. AND if the kids can be 3' apart, they won't have to wear a mask, either...can't wait to get the 'rona

What a joke. Wait until the lawsuits start flying putting her/him personally responsible. S/he will retire in a heartbeat.

What are the numbers for classroom sizes at high school level? I had 22 with room to move now I’m at 29 with barely room to move. My numbers are still 30 or better.

Our administration removed the Teacher desks into grade level offices.

What does your union say?

😳😦😬

All teacher are required to wear masks. Grades 3-up are also required. PreK, 1,2 children don’t except for busses, and some hallway time and bathroom.

Now they’re saying they don’t have to wear them in their classroom if they’re social distanced!! I have to go from room to room that’s just stupid!!

Opinions wanted-Does randomly calling on students using a random generator create an emotionally safe classroom? My wife is a teacher and trying to get into the business world. Shes the most organized, personable, detail oriented person I know, so i know she’d do great in something implementation / customer success / project management / business academy related. Any certifications she can get to get noticed & get people to take a chance on her? No luck so far trying to relate the classroom/parent/administration management dynamic to interfacing with a client 😓

Feeling very down today. In my 10 years of teaching I have had furniture thrown at me, students destroy my classroom, call me a F@&ing B!+@= to my face, & more. But we are always able connect at some level. I get those "tough kids" year after year because I am good at building positive relationships over time. These same kids who would fight with me, would fight *for* me in a heartbeat. But this year is so different. They will steal from me and lie to my face with zero remorse or care. Over it.

Hello, How do you organize your classroom in terms of supplies? I have students who tend to make a scene , grab anything close to them and throw it everywhere. These are my more severe students. We only have two 6 feet shelves with doors that can have supplies in. Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated! Thank you!

Spending another day questioning every decision ever made. I don’t like being a solo practitioner in an area that is incredibly difficult to not only win a case but to get paid for your time.
