The hardest part I'm having w/my FIRE Journey is sticking to the plan & not quitting my job now. I'd be ok if I did, but I want better than ok, + a cushion. Plus, I have 2 kids to put thru college.

What are your numbers and how did you get there if you don’t mind sharing?

Right there with ya. It’s FIRE mindset but greedy actual lol.

My FIRE calculator says I can retire now. My desire to start a family and “have more” has me working at 9pm.

like

A significant other can definitely accelerate or delay FIRE, depending on his/her saving and spending habits. For me, I definitely need to be with someone who also values saving a little more now so we dont have to work as long in the future.

And I agree about helping kids through college. It made saving and growing my personal portfolio easy for me since I left college with under $20k in loans.

What are you thoughts on Lean Fire or Barista Fire?

Making some assumptions but I think you could likely FIRE and do some consulting on the side to add some cash flow.

It's not all or nothing

like

Had to google this. Not about Lean Fire - if I have kids I want to support them through college.

Barista fire yes. I’m about it - and will cross that bridge when i get there

J1 & J2 together make about 200k although there is no room for growth in either but WLB is amazing (< 10hrs per week). Stuck contemplating if I should abandon overemploy to chase promotions seeing that I could eventually get to my current salary with my job. Just feeling a little stuck over all. I know many consultants most likely make more. Any one else feel this way or have any thoughts? I was thinking of looking for a different J1 and slowly try to climb up if possible.

I've been avoiding breaking up with someone (I've been dating off and on for a year) for the past few weeks because I can't decide the best way to do it. We're not compatible long-term. He's not seeing anyone else and I've told him I'm seeing other people but he's starting to have relationship expectations for me since we reconnected a few months ago. Any tips for having the conversation? I'd prefer to do it via text but I know people say it's not appropriate and it should be over the phone.

My fiancé will NOT stop talking about her ex. After I found out they were texting arguing she justified it by saying it was about the dogs and not them. Even though Her social media is full of his pics. She still sends him $50 a month for dog food, still goes to work right by his place and suspiciously needs keys. I try to bring it up and I get dismantled for being too mean and making “false accusations.” How much more obvious can it be?

I’m curious to hear people’s thoughts on moving up (particularly within biglaw) with the goal of being a star litigator. I’m very interested in becoming the person whose added value is my litigation skills, but when I look at partners it seems as though most of them are valued more for their ability to market and pull clients in. Is marketing the only way up in the biglaw model?

Friend and I who went to law school together want to go into practice together (specifically, COA/HOA collections); however, she is not licensed, yet. I am. She would be working the same as I, just unable to give advice, file, etc. (all the things that require a license). Our deal would be that upon her licensure, she would get a percentage ownership of the firm (probably 49-50%). However, I litigate, and would anticipate bringing on cases to the firm outside of just HOA/COA stuff. (Cont’d)…

•~$200k TC combined
•Saving for a house currently… Aiming to get a full down payment and get one by Summer 2023
