The joys of statements and clients freaking out. One I got today "I've lost $35k and I pay you not to lose money" Excuse me? You take $2500 a month out of a $450k account against my advice.

lol @ "I have to pray on this". No one has ever told me that. I don't know that I could keep from laughing in their face.

I love the "I have to pray on this." Some Christians use that phrase as a defense mechanism. I often wonder what it is exactly that they are going to be praying for.

It seems you failed to educate the client on sustainable withdrawal rates along with the inevitability of market volatility. Bring them in and spend time going over their projections and discuss how these are their choices then show them how to improve.

like

Capital One, not that big of a loss if the client is taking over 6% annually through monthly withdrawals.

like

I was assuming the client was talking about losses as in his account was down. Btw I do know the difference between withdrawals and losses

OP, I wonder if they think they won't pay the surgeon if the patient dies? Or even the painter if after the color is on the wall, they decide they don't like it.

Sounds like perhaps the clients portfolio is not in line with their risk expectations. A 35k lose on a 450k account is pretty significant. When was the last time you reviewed their risk tolerance and compared it to your allocation.

Principal, withdrawals and losses as two different things. And the original post stated a 35k loss.

I am wanting to start investing in real estate in the new year… I’m using this month to read up on it and familiarize myself with it. I am a true beginner and wanted to ask for any tips, tricks, advice, books, videos, magazines, podcasts, etc to start? Please let me know!

Hi there, I’d really love some advice from you all. In the last year I had to sell our home in Boulder, CO and embark on a new build process on a home in Tampa, FL. It turns out my dad can’t afford to live on his own so we found a home in FL that would have an in law suite. We locked in a rate but it expired and they are unwilling to extend due to the fact the builder is delayed and supply chain issues. Is there a smart way to structure loans now I’m unaware of? I’m super concerned.

$GOL and $AZUL: high risk trade here but sharing the idea. Both getting HAMMERED right now due to Brazil covid sitch being the worst maybe in the world. Also strong dollar hurts their earnings overall. Earnings are coming in about a week. Potential for reversal there but the big play is if they are bad (they should be) and both go down further. At that point it's a good idea to load up on LEAPS.

Was in INTC 45, RKT 21.5, travel move since early Feb as some sort of fishbowl cred.

Our House hold income is $160000. We both have a very good credit score. With $70000 as a down payment, what is the max mortgage we can get.

With all the talks about GME, AMC, NOK, a smart investor gets out before the music stops. If Chamath was on our side he would have exercised his options and held the stock and not sold the next day. He is not one of us, he is just anti-WallStreet. Do not put money you cannot afford to lose and no margins.

Anyone buy property in South/Central America ? Considering making an investment in a unit in Panama City, Panama. Friends and I visit here and there + AirBnb seems to work well there. We have a lawyer contact and have a friend that purchased down there, but they aren’t as concerned about short term rental cash flow. Overall purchase price is low (300K) for a nice large condo in a nice area of the city. Just curious on the thoughts of others.

Hi all,

I’m in the middle of my prep for interviews for entry level positions. A lot of online material seems geared towards consultants/managers, in terms of complexity.

Whats a good amount of time to dedicate to case prep for example? and any advice on managing the pressure/nerves too?

Thanks! :)

Beginning in April, after a combo of fasting, intuitive eating, hitting the gym 4-5x/week, going thru a short cutting phase, weight training at 85-100% & slowly building back up to 5k steps daily, I lost 20 lbs in 6 months (end of Sept)!
