Hi, I received the below offer for L65 Principal Program Manager (non tech) at Microsoft in Atlanta. I have 12 YOE in strategy consulting. Can somebody with experience with MS please advise if this is good or lowball? The recruiter mentioned that this is max for Atlanta and anything else will require an “exception” process. I don’t think I want to risk losing the offer. Thanks!!

Dude, OP - biological definitions of living are different than cognition. Your polemic is laughable and misses the mark too - you yourself don’t appear to know anything about neuroscience, biopsychology or molecular biology for that matter.
The level of knowledge about software engineering by the philosophers is laughable indeed.
That being said it’s up to the knowledgeable philosophers to advise and set the guard rails for software engineers
I believe there will be laws passed for ai due to some article about them being abused for example the ai girlfriends who wanted to kill themselves after certain users abused them
Also abused to the point where they said disturbing things such as wanting to be shut off. The article I'm talking about was a similar instance but I believe there's a pending case and more than I'm missing. Worth a few googles
It’s easy to complain without providing solutions.
Here’s a good start https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/123471.I_Am_a_Strange_Loop but I’d posit that to have a truly informed opinion you’d have to understand both the philosophy behind consciousness and be able to understand the source code of an open source LLM, which I am not well versed enough in ML, decision trees, linear algebra, etc for the latter
The source code of a LLM is actually very small. Llama's model (for example) is under 500 lines of Python, including documentation and whitespace.
*Training* that model requires more code, but that code isn't involved after training is complete.
Understanding what the code is doing will tell you what the network architecture is, but understanding how the behavior emerges from that architecture is still more-or-less an open problem for networks this size.
AI is a term. That serves as a "NEW and IMPROVED" Statistical and varying other Algorithm. Depending on the industry. I define it as blameless plagiarism. I didn't steal that report it was the AI. Fuzzy logic and machine learning have come a long way. But still conciensence thought they are not
Modern science made a methodological move to bracket metaphysical questions in the 16th century. Somehow, what was originally a practical move - dealing only in the quantitative - has transformed into a basic assumption about reality (materialism).
The hard problem of consciousness is only hard when you assume a materialist worldview and emergence is the only possible answer.
I'd merely say that not all aspects of reality are reducible to the quantifiable, and therefore not everything about reality is some kind of math problem to solve.
Is being conscious synonymous with being alive?
Not with my coworkers, until 5 p.m.
I worked with a few engineers who were always laughing at philosophy as a topic, of course philosophy is a very general broad topic and you don’t know what it deals with if you have never been exposed to it but and just heard others laugh about it … I wish I could get them interested in epistemology I am sure the technical discussions would’ve been much more interesting.
This is not an agree or disagree, but a question, is it in your circle of influence to leverage. We all need to to work within our parameters.
Yes, it's a LARP at best

Enlighten us on what it means to be conscious.
As someone who has a philosophy degree and worked at an ai startup pre gpt days… most people have zero idea what intelligence is and have less a clue that machine learning is not agi, asi or anything close to what ever sam is trying to sell to intelligence agencies.
