How have you broke the news to your boss that you’re looking to make a career change and leave the practice? I am the Sr. Paralegal at my firm (7+ years) and work for a solo practitioner in a very busy wage & hour class action practice. We have one other legal assistant and law clerk. I don’t want to burn bridges, but after seeing how he gave the cold shoulder to his paralegal of 10+ years after going on maternity leave and never coming back, I don’t see how I can’t expect the same treatment.

Will a cover letter significantly help my application while applying to MBB? Or significantly hurt if I don’t attach one? There’s nothing unusual about my resume to explain (i.e. employment gaps, reapplication, etc) so my CL would primarily be explaining why I want to work for the firm.

What’s the sense of becoming a partner at a larger firm where you can’t even really make business decisions since there are so many partners higher than you? I’ve wanted start my own business since I was about 5 years old and can’t wrap my head around what the draw to partner is outside of the high pay. Any insight?

Hired cleaner recommended through the Neighborhood app. She came for the first couple of cleanings and did a great job. Subsequent cleanings, she sent other people and today, instead of two adults, the replacement cleaner brought her 13-year-old daughter. Am extremely uncomfortable, not just because of the bate and switch but more so because of child labor laws. I know these individuals can probably use the money, what is the right thing to do?
