I’m a moderate, and truth be told I’m a bit more republican than Democrat. I’ve noticed the past few months that Trump has taken the attorney route with press conferences. Know how attorneys throw in questions or phrases they know will be objected to or overruled? But it’s still in the jury’s head? Right? They can’t un-hear it. That’s what Trump is doing, kind of. He wasn’t saying we should postpone the election because he believes normal elections are safe or should happen; he’s saying “if it has to be mail-in, let’s postpone...because something is fishy here.” Now if he doesn’t get elected, he could pull “well I knew all along something wasn’t right...” With the exec order, he knows damn well that it has to go to congress and he doesn’t have the authority. So it’s like him promising it then he could say 🤷‍♂️ I tired.. the bad bad dems voted it down!

Executive Orders don’t have to “go to Congress.” That’s not how the legislative process works. The general premise of what you’re saying is correct - that he’s claiming he took action when in fact he doesn’t have the power to unilaterally act, and he’s counting on the fact that not enough people understand that, so when it doesn’t happen he can blame the Democrats. But Congress doesn’t do anything relative to EOs. Those documents are directives to specific departments to “study” how he can accomplish an objective, not directives to change a law or rule that’s already on the books.

He doesn’t have the authority to do it but it sounds nice but how in the world would you implement a payroll tax freeze? What will happen when people file their taxes and it says they owe money?!

likesmart

As a person who has filed taxes both for an accounting firm and personal business for many years, you’re on the hook if it’s underpaid. The govt is less concerned about who pays it and will gladly take the amounts missing from your refund. This is not an “I think” moment. It’s an “I’ve seen it happen a few times” moment.

So much for political consultants

Cost sharing is how you do it at FEMA. States have cash, but by going through FEMA states are REQUIRED to show invoices and receipts. This has a three-fold effect: -Money that is not used for the purpose it was intended must be paid by the state -It becomes harder to fund your favorite political organizations, and money has to be spent on real businesses and organizations with real people who need it the most -Accountability: things all of a sudden have signatures, dates, labels, and can be traced back to individual people. After all is said and done, it becomes VERY easy to eject or prosecute dirty politicians because they can’t hide behind the shield of “I didn’t know” or “someone else signed for me”. This is good, in my humble opinion.

I'm asumming the payroll tax cut wont be adopted by all employers or youll have to request to opt out. Better safe than sorry and end up with a refund.

like

I'm not saying there is. I have no idea what will happen, but I think some employers may not comply with the executive order because the tax is still ultimately due at this point.

Simply incredible that reporters act like the guy who wheeled out massive stacks of blank paper to “prove” he was divesting himself of his business actually did something real with these memos. They’re just memos. That’s it. They don’t do anything. Congress controls appropriations, not the executive. Four years in and the media still getting played by a man with a sub-ape IQ.

OC, you need to chill. There are literally no deadlines in this case right now. Our CMC isn’t until October because the court is so overwhelmed. Your (bogus) “creative” claims aren’t time-sensitive. My client is still trying to recover from the massive hit it took during COVID. And I’m already billing 250+ hour months on other matters because, again, COVID disruptions. Your desire to get docs faster is the LEAST of my priorities, especially when we already gave you a shit ton of data and docs.

I am getting ready to send my 2 year old toddler to a toddler program next week for the first time. Have to fill out a form “bathroom waiver”, which is basically allowing teachers at the school to clean my child after a potty, including genital area. I feel uneasy about this but I know I have to let them… I assume all parents have signed such waiver?

What grade (A-F) would you give your state or district in their covid response?

Our district does not give sick days if a teacher has Covid so if a teacher tests positive, that teacher must use his or her own sick days. If a teacher gets Covid or tests positive, 10+ sick days are gone because of district policy. Some teachers have lost 20-30 days because they tested positive 2-3 times even though they have no symptoms. Because of this, some teachers have stated they will not test and will just come to school unless their symptoms are too severe.

Would love to hear from moms whose babies went to daycare / school right after maternity leave (no nanny etc). Due in March and on the list for a stellar Montessori daycare / preschool near us to start in August (school year) when baby is 4-5 months old. Feeling guilty and struggling to decide if keeping baby home a year with a nanny is better, starting school in 2023? However, I’m worried about cost - we really would not be able to afford a nanny in our city on our salaries. Advice welcome!
